One line in the Government’s own clarification deserves more attention than it got.
PIB, 29 Oct 2026 (Release ID 2330284):
“The Business Valuation is always done through the Transaction Adviser as per the protocol.”
Think about what that means.
The Transaction Adviser is the firm hired to run the sale and take it to closing. The same firm, through experts it appointed itself, produced the valuation that told the Government whether the bid was fair. That valuation compared IDBI only with public sector banks and set the ₹75.99 benchmark that Fairfax’s ₹81 then cleared.
I am not alleging anything against any firm. Protocol may well allow it. But in any audit, in any bank, we separate the one who makes the deal from the one who checks it. That is the first lesson of internal control — and every banker learns it in the first year.
If the valuation is sound, an independent second look costs nothing and settles everything.
The ask remains simple and fair:
👉Publish the KPMG and BDO valuation reports.
👉Let an independent valuer, with no role in running the sale, review them before any further step.
Transparency is not opposition to reform.
It is what makes a reform credible.

A man with 800+ CIBIL wants ₹53,000 Cr loan from IDBI to buy IDBI Bank itself.
Bank made ₹30,000+ Cr profit in 5 years. He’ll repay in 7 years from the same profits.
“Lend me money to buy you, I’ll pay you back from your own earnings.”
Peak shamelessness.

#Fairfax buys IDBI at Rs 81/share (15% lower than market price), pays govt & #LIC -> Rs 52,878 Cr
Now Fairfax controlled #IDBI's capital will be used to buy Fairfax Indian companies :- Go Digit General Insurance, Life Insurance & IIFL at MARKET PRICE. Total valuation of Insurance firm is Rs 24,502 cr and IIFL Rs 10,953 Cr.
So IDBI capital will be used and the 67% (2/3) cash goes back to Fairfax. Prem Watsa got the IDBI in approx 17.4 thousand cr rupees, on already discounted share price. And this is not just a stock sale. This is STRATEGIC DISINVESTMENT, meaning govt has transferred its controlling stake and management control to a single buyer. Also whatever IDBI owns, including prize real estate at premium commercial spaces across cities in India.
