Ok, I spoke with graduating high school senior Santiago Campos about his decision to call out the network (CBS News) that funded his scholarship. He said he felt an obligation to acknowledge criticisms of the network.
“I knew it was kind of what I had to do,” he told me. “I felt like I couldn’t just accept the scholarship and also ignore just how wrong the direction of CBS is going."

Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
Wow, the student journalist who won the Mike Wallace Memorial Scholarship at the News Emmys just called out CBS News.
"While I want to thank CBS News for funding this generous gift toward my education, I want to also acknowledge how the recent direction of the outlet stains the legacy of Mike Wallace, the name sake of this scholarship." (Applause and some surprise in the room)
We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire motorsports community.
Timothy Weah was essentially told to “shut up and dribble” by his #USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino after he spoke out against outrageous World Cup ticket prices.
Here he is at Zohran Mamdani’s affordable tickets press conference.
NEW: More than 340 local U.S. news outlets are limiting
@internetarchive's access to their journalism.
@decka227 and I have mapped out what at looks like across the country:
Mid-game and Carter Bryant still took the time to wash his hands. Therefore, there’s no excuse for the average man to not wash his hands after using the bathroom. 🤷🏾♂️
On May 4, The Washington Post won two Pulitzers. To stream the announcement live, the paper had to bring back two of the video operators it had laid off in February. Nobody left in the building could run the equipment. They walked past the new opinion studio on their way in.
The new opinion studio was built with $80,000 in video gear. Its flagship podcast has 515 YouTube subscribers after 186 videos and more than 20 episodes. Apple Podcasts users have given it 2.3 stars. The most positive review on record: "This is bad and the people making it should feel bad."
Dave Jorgenson, the journalist who built WaPo's TikTok presence, left last year. His personal YouTube channel now has 358,000 subscribers. The opinion podcast has 515. A former WaPo journalist working with a small team has built more than 600 times the audience of the flagship new show.
Bezos was warned by his own opinion editor that the rightward pivot would cost subscribers. His documented response, per the New York Times: "I don't care."
The piece's own summary is the only sentence needed: "Bezos laid off the people who win the Pulitzers. He's funding the people who lose the subscribers."
Commencement speaker: I love AI and I hate all of you. They gave me a big check to be here. I love firing people at my big company. I bet none of you would get jobs at my business now that we have AI
(booing)
Commencement speaker: oh? What? What?
So I'm 36 years old and, you know, out of touch with what's going on at colleges, so maybe this is a dumb question, but did every school in the country lose their fucking minds lol. Why have all these universities baked AI into their graduation ceremonies? What fuck is going on?
still not quite over the fact that i watched 15 year olds get sued for millions of dollars for downloading twelve songs and now we all have to accept AI slop because every tech company in the known universe decided that IP laws don't exist now that they're inconvenient for them
a key point in the plot of office space is that the employees of initech have no stability, and are in fact perpetually on the chopping block because of the gutting of job protections and corporate profit-maxing that continues to make life hell for most americans every year
ABC News has now taken all FiveThirtyEight articles completely offline. They now redirect to abcnews dot com/politics. A needless erasure of thousands of pages of knowledge.
