This World Cup has been absolutely brilliant, but the Mexico v England game is the most brilliantly bonkers game of them all. Absolutely wild game of football.
#ENGMEX
We tonight beat the weather, kick off delay, the incredible altitude, the referee, Fifa, being down to 10 men and Mexico. A classic #England performance for the ages. Brilliant performance. #FifaworldCup2026
$10k Main Event @WSOP starts tomorrow.
You've made dozens of decisions leading up to this week that'll affect how you play
No time to learn more strategy. It's time to maximize your ability to execute the strategy you already know
Here's what I prioritize for Main Event Day 1:
Before play
• Wake up 2–3 hours before play (closer to 90 minutes once deep and turnaround times get shorter).
• Get outside within your first 30 minutes. Morning sunlight helps wake you up, improves alertness, and helps set you up for better sleep that night.
• Get moving. Even a 15-minute walk or mobility routine is enough to wake up your body and brain.
• Plan your meals ahead of time. Know where you're eating and what you're ordering so you're not scrambling during dinner break.
During play
• Learn the bathroom options. The second-closest bathroom is often faster because everyone heads to the nearest one. If I'm in the SB or UTG near break, I'll often skip the last hand to beat the line so i get to enjoy my full 20m break.
• Use breaks to recover, not consume more information. Skip the doomscrolling and bad beat conversations. Go for a walk, do a few breathing exercises, meditate, or just sit quietly for a few minutes.
• Document tough hands. Once they're written down, you can stop thinking about them and get back to focusing on the next decision.
• Have three methods in your back pocket to help you deal with tilt or lack of focus. For me its things like pushups, breating excercises, wind sprints, cold shower.
After play
• Cut off caffeine ~10 hours before bed. You may still fall asleep, but your sleep quality can suffer.
• Avoid meals, alcohol, and THC at least ~3 hours before bed when possible or else it impacts your REM sleep. One night won't matter much, but after 5–8 straight days you'll wish you'd been optimizing your recovery and sleep sooner.
• Avoid endless phone scrolling before bed.
If you're studying poker before Day 1, skip concept videos.
Review real hands instead from wSOP. The goal isn't to learn something brand new, it's to sharpen the decision-making you'll actually use tomorrow.
One last thing...
I'm documenting every interesting hand I play on Day 1A of the 2026 WSOP Main Event, along with my thought process and adjustments throughout the day.
If you'd like the complete hand history plus a few more Main Event preparation tips, I'll put the link in the first reply.
