@zearl You realize at $650 a month it would take like 6 or 7 years to just break even on that $50k? Also, what do you mean it’s an asset? If it can’t make you money, and it costs money, it’s a liability not an asset. If it’s such a great position to be in, go buy some. You won’t though
@cardnialsonnn@ChicagoNFT1@acoover Giving them care and removing them from the public are both totally moral, legitimate, goals. A clearly schizophrenic man lives on my block and he pretty regularly shits on the sidewalk. He also screams at passerby’s. It’s not a test of societal empathy to have to recon with that
@boomgoesthecan1@emiliepfrank This just isn’t true. I live in Logan circle. There are like 5 bars within walking distance of me where I can order a $6 beer and there’s a bartender that recognizes me if not knows my name. I like the DC bar scene
@MattDeLuca@MikeAWheeler Parks are overrated. Built a nice dense mixed use neighborhood. More of Capitol Hill, more of DuPont Circle, more of Mt Pleasant
@RhonnieF@jackiepeiser You grew up in a DC that was a crime ridden shit hole incapable of attracting any private investment, so you resent private investment. Development is good, the farther DC gets away from the one you’re nostalgic for the better
@maustermuhle@TheArtist_MBS I bet you could find dozens of people in Kingman Park who think bestiality should be legal or that the earth is flat. Who gives a shit. Stop reporting on neighbor input as if it's news.
@maustermuhle@kristoncapps The easement was a made up bullshit reason. Why did NIMBYs fight McMillan Reservoir? We need to fully remove neighbor input on private development. This isn’t the era of Robert Moses
@dominic_coletti@Undue_Risk I lived in DuPont circle DC while my girlfriend was living in rittenhouse square for grad school. Basically split time between the two for a couple years. It’s pretty similar man. Only difference between DC and Baltimore/philly is that there isn’t poor blue collar whites in DC
@TODNewsHub Jubilee's entire model is based upon a false premise. "Gentrification" is not a problem, the building should have always been market rate. Why do we have to dedicate one of the most prominent intersections in the city, for at least the next 50 years, to essentially public housing
@YIMBYLAND But what about fat as fuck firemen and the private equity backed equipment manufacturers who give them the tools needed to save lives?? We need 2 stair cases in every building that are at least 10 ft wide and every residential street must be 50 ft wide for trucks doing 3 pt turns
sort of shocking how much DC seems to be stuck under the thumb of a class of people who believe the city has too many businesses, too much nightlife, too many residents, and is too much fun
@gaslightyourmom This is Pennsylvania Ave right around the corner 20 years prior to the Lincoln Memorial being built. 400,000 people already lived in DC. The Mall as we know it was a pretty late addition to Washington
@KristofferVA@owroot This is downtown Washington DC ten years before the Lincoln Memorial was built. DC's population was like 400,000 people at the time the Lincoln Memorial was built, about the same size as San Francisco. The National Mall as we know it was a relatively late addition to DC.
