Today, Rwanda received 366 Rwandan returnees from the DRC, including 304 from Goma, 32 from Bukavu and 30 from Kamanyola. They arrived safely at Kijote Transit Centre, where they will be hosted pending further repatriation arrangements, while 269 returnees previously hosted at the centre have been facilitated to return to their respective districts of origin.

Today, PS @NgogaAristarque officially launched the Strengthening Gender-Responsive Climate Resilience, Disaster Preparedness and Early Warning Systems Project, in partnership with @UNWomen and with support from @japaninrwanda. He emphasized that disaster preparedness is not only a technical requirement, but a governance responsibility that protects lives and sustains development, especially as Rwanda and the region prepare for potential El Niño-related heavy rains, floods, landslides and storms.

The 2-day workshop brings together stakeholders from 9 districts to strengthen capacity on gender-responsive disaster risk management, including prevention and mitigation of GBV risks and protection-sensitive preparedness and response, with a focus on women, youth and vulnerable groups.

Today, PS @NgogaAristarque joined government staff; mainly District Disaster Management Officers, attending a Co-Production Workshop on Early Warning Systems, aimed at strengthening systems that are effective, usable and inclusive, particularly as Rwanda prepares for potential El Niño-related heavy rains.

The 4-day workshop, organised by @MeteoRwanda in partnership with @metoffice and @WMO, brings stakeholders together to assess the forecast-to-action value chain, identify gaps and barriers, and develop practical recommendations to improve the generation, communication, dissemination, interpretation and use of early warning information; turning forecasts into timely action. #ElNino #EarlyWarning

#MondayReflection - 𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗦

The rainy season is approaching. Before the heavy rains come, ask yourself one important question: “Is the house I am renting really safe for me and my family?”

Maybe your area flooded during the last rainy season. People left when water entered their homes, but returned when the rains stopped. If nothing has changed, what will be different this time?

Maybe your house has cracks that were simply covered with paint or plaster instead of being properly repaired. A fresh coat of paint can hide a crack. It cannot make a dangerous house safe.

Maybe you live below an unstable retaining wall, or near a drainage channel where neighbours warn you: “When it rains heavily, water reaches this house.” Please listen. A beautiful house on a sunny day may look very different during a heavy downpour.

And to landlords: if you know the house you are renting out puts someone’s life at risk, act. Do not hide dangerous cracks or continue collecting rent from a house you know repeatedly floods or is unsafe. Rent should never be more important than the life of the person sleeping inside.

Not everyone can move easily. But if you are renting and have the possibility to choose a safer place, do it before the emergency chooses for you.

A cheaper rent is not a saving if it puts your life at risk. A house can be replaced. A life cannot.

The 4th Inter-Camp Tournament came to a vibrant close today after a week of exciting competition in ⚽ Football, 🏀 Basketball, 🏐 Volleyball, ���� Sitting Volleyball, 🥋 Karate & Taekwondo.

👏 30,000+ refugees, host community members and humanitarian actors turned up to watch the grand finale, celebrating outstanding talent, teamwork and sportsmanship.

🥇🏆 Mahama, Kiziba & Mugombwa emerged among the top award winners, taking home the highest number of prizes.

Beyond sport, the closing ceremony promoted awareness on the dangers of illicit alcohol and encouraged refugees to embrace opportunities for social and economic inclusion.

From August 10 – 11, 2026, MINEMA in partnership with the World Bank, conducted a two-day Tabletop Simulation Exercise for Rwanda’s Contingent Emergency Response Project (CERP). The exercise brought together government sector institutions, partners and WB technical teams to strengthen the country’s preparedness to rapidly activate and operationalize emergency financing when an eligible crisis occurs.

Participants worked through the CERP activation process, including emergency assessment, crisis response plan preparation, fund mobilization and early implementation, while testing inter-institutional coordination and clarifying roles and responsibilities. The exercise reinforces Rwanda’s readiness to ensure rapid, flexible and accountable emergency response financing.

Tonight, in partnership with @Refugees, Rwanda welcomed the 24th group of 177 asylum seekers from Libya originating from Sudan (68) Eritrea (66), Somali (2), Ethiopia (15) & South Sudan (26). They will be accommodated in Gashora Transit Center, that hosts other evacuees who arrived before.

Since September 2019, Rwanda has received over 3,000 refugees & asylum seekers from Libya. 2,681 of them have been successfully resettled in third countries; namely (297) Sweden, (927) Canada, (229) Norway, (332) France, (271)Finland, (94)Netherlands,(72) Belgium, (325) USA, (132) Germany.

Rwanda remains committed to offering refuge to people in need.

Today, Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira received @BelenCalvoEU, the outgoing EU Ambassador to Rwanda, on a farewell courtesy visit marking the conclusion of her diplomatic mission.

Their discussions reflected on strong partnership between the Government of Rwanda and the European Union, particularly in the area of emergency management and humanitarian response.

Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira expressed appreciation for the Ambassador's contribution to strengthening the longstanding cooperation between EU & MINEMA in particular, which has resulted in significant achievements through sustained collaboration.

The meeting also highlighted key achievements of the Rwanda–EU partnership, including continued support for the Emergency Transit Mechanism (ETM), the resettlement of ETM refugees across EU Member States, and strengthened emergency preparedness, response, and climate resilience initiatives implemented through the World Food Programme.

Today, MINEMA in collaboration with @RwandaInterior & @Rwandapolice, conducted a capacity-building training on fire safety and security for staff from @RwandaWater, @Lands_Rwanda,@RwandaHealth,@EnvironmentRw & MINEMA.

The training aimed to strengthen compliance with fire safety, lightning protection, and emergency preparedness standards while equipping participants with practical skills in the proper use of fire extinguishers.

The ongoing initiative responds to gaps identified during recent inspections of public and private infrastructures and reflects the Government's commitment to enhancing workplace safety, preparedness, and resilience across institutions.
