"When the digital frontier overwhelms you, stake your hope on this: it’s no match for the depth inside of you. Then set your practice here as well: we do well to tune in here first." -@heystephsmith https://t.co/FnknkUayFe
The Bible is trending because it was just used to justify ripping babies from their mothers’ arms and putting them in interment camps. Christians have a name for this: blasphemy.
"This is not a jealous divine patriarch to be fully known or personified or obeyed, but a profound and ultimately unknowable mystery to be honored." ~ Daniel Heath Justice
"It seems entirely appropriate to me that the Anishinaabe term for the creative force ofthe universe is Gitche Manitou, often translated as the Great Mystery.” 1/2
@wirelesshogan @uw_english Also, lots of interest in the way you put your finger on the way Christendom has bred the kind of confluence of patriotism and faith that propagates white supremacy. 2/2
@wirelesshogan I'm thrilled to follow your twitter feed and give a presentation on it for my PhD level class at @uw_english this month! Know that you are being read, heard and studied even up in Canada!
@wirelesshogan @uw_english Fantastic! Very engaged conversation about your use of rhetorics of Evangelicalism and patriotism to reflect back to white Christian America the white supremacist ethos baked into the foundations of the nation. 1/2
On Friday President Trump gave the commencement address at the Naval Academy. In his speech he attempted to motivate the graduates by reminding them of America's past military conquests. by telling them "our ancestors tamed a continent."

Do not let this go: 1475 asylum-seeking children were lost in 2017 by the US gov’t. As poet @Warsan_Shire says, “no one leaves home unless / home is the mouth of a shark.” We must demand our gov’t not hand CHILDREN to traffickers! #1475 #wherearethey? https://t.co/00rzkpGfoO
Its taken me awhile, but I think I'm finally beginning to understand why the theology of #WhiteEvangelicalism does not allow it to acknowledge generational/corporate sin, such as #whiteSupremacy, the genocide of Native peoples and the enslavement of African people.
1/5
Also, because western Christianity has been in bed with empire for so long, white Evangelicals views themselves collectively, not as the Body of Christ, but as Christendom.
3/5
What this means is white Evangelicalism (I.e. Christendom) does not know Jesus on a communal level. And w/o the ability to communally relate to Jesus & receive his sacrifice on the cross, there is no theological space to acknowledge, & be freed from, generational/corporate sin.

So very moved listening to the magnificent Parker Palmer here @CalvinCollege “Violence is what happens when we don’t know what else to do with our pain”
I don't have much patience for the "we need to put God back in our society" remedy for gun violence.
I live in a country now that hasn't "put God in" its society.
But it has next to zero school shootings.
You know what they have put in society?
Gun control laws.
