The best founders I know have a clear vision, but they’re also willing to listen.
That doesn’t mean they take every piece of advice they receive. It means they’re open enough to consider different perspectives and use them to make better decisions.
I think there’s a big difference between having strong convictions and believing you already have all the answers.
Founders need to be intentional about who they let into their inner circle. There are plenty of people willing to offer advice, but only a few who genuinely make you think better.
At the end of the day, the founder makes the final call. The right people around them should help sharpen their thinking, not replace it.
I might throw in the towel on primary commits in VC/PE. If you just did LP secondaries (buying discounted fund interests), growing your commit pace or maybe even staying constant overtime, you could have a top quartile PI portfolio in 5-10 years.
Why? LP secondaries have a reverse J curve where you buy at a discount and mark to GAAP NAV upon close. Sprinkle a little leverage. Boom, you start with a mean IRR.
Of course, it’s a sugar high and fades to 12% over time. Sure, it’s also a levered bet on private equity.
But I’ll be gone by the time I’m figured out.
Three related trends I’ve noticed lately. The combo of AI-generated cold outreach tools and big lists of VC emails is pushing investors back toward human-driven warm intros and referrals. Partners leaving big firms to start new firms are creating new networks to invest with people they like but maybe couldn’t work with at their old firms based on fund size and strategy. And the density of AI is pulling talent back to SF and consumer startups are consolidating in NYC. In many ways, VC today feels like we are moving back to the way the industry worked prior to 2018.
anyone familiar with Bullx? Curious to hear thoughts as son has started using it. He is only doing a little trading but is generating some nice income from his referral trades. $BullX

The @whitesox select Pierce George (Chatham '24) with the 379th pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
The @AlabamaBSB pitcher appeared in four games for the Anglers, throwing 7.1 innings while registering 11 strikeouts.
A friend who supports Biden and hates Trump complained to me this morning that I am being narcissistic by sharing my views publicly on the presidential election, and that I should keep my views to myself.
I explained to my friend that part of being a good citizen is participating in the political process. If one believes that one candidate is materially better for the country than another, one should advocate in any way that they can for that candidate. This is not narcissism. It is patriotism. All of us have an obligation to stand up and be counted.
Great time at the MLB Combine with @PierceGeorge8

The public narrative about consumer investing is detached from the potential. Last year, VC firms distanced themselves from the category and just 7% of seed capital went to consumer. But consumer company performance largely outpaces enterprise. My piece in @theinformation:
How Roger Ehrenberg Nets 10x Fund Returns https://t.co/kcyxKjrbyf I just watched this. It's actually quite good and accurately reflects my views on venture investing strategy, the macroeconomic environment and firm culture. The only issue is DAMN, I'M GETTING OLD! 😂 #VC
The media is ready to coronate Donald Trump as the nominee when only 2 states have voted. We don’t do coronations in America, we do elections. We were stronger in NH than we were in IA, and we’ll be stronger in SC. The momentum keeps growing, and I’ll keep going! 🇺🇸💪
