During the first week of cross-country, a freshman asked twice how far the team was running.

She started at the back and fell off before the first turn. By then, the front group was already gone.

A senior looked over her shoulder. She let her group go and jogged back.

"You know the way?"

The freshman shook her head.

"Stay with me. We go left up here."

They finished several minutes behind everyone else. Most of the team was already stretching.

The next morning, the freshman was waiting beside the senior when practice started.

Four Augusts later, the coach watched her reach that same turn, look over her shoulder, and wait.

What an incredible 3A boys 4x800. Gilbert came out of the first heat to set a state meet record of 7:47.21. Pella responded in the second heat with another state meet record, winning the state title in 7:45.53

Five boys in the top 12 individually. 28 points as a team. Canaan Dunham the individual Champion. 🥇

Pella Boys have qualified to State 20 of the past 21 seasons.

Currently we believe the count is 17 of 19 events with state qualifiers for the boys. 19 auto qualifiers + 7 more by time/distance. 26 state entries would be a team record.

In 2022 we qualified 19 of 19 events with 25 total entries.

Final races for Autumn and Tess last night. Both have been State Qualifiers and though they won’t run at state qualifying this season, they gave tremendous effort, character, and leadership. Both ran ATB 1500m this season. @PHSdutchtrack
