Iran’s agriculture sector, unlike its gold sector, is largely exempt from Western sanctions. That makes it an attractive loophole for the IRGC and other state players at a time when Iran’s currency is flailing, experts told The Brief.
“This is a regular supply of gold as an alternative [finance and trade] settlement structure that benefits the stability of Iran,” said @Norman_Roule, a senior nonresident advisor at the @CSIS. “There’s no reason for the Iranians not to exploit this asset class.”

Nearly $200 million in gold, a Kharon investigation found, flowed into Iran from Türkiye last year through one network of Iranian companies that purport not to be involved in currency or precious metals but mostly in greenhouse-grown fruits and vegetables.
The firms are controlled by the directors of sanctioned Amin Exchange, which the U.S. said facilitated “hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign transactions for sanctioned Iranian persons,” including state oil companies.
Last year, they imported about eight times as much gold as their exports were worth, according to available trade data.
The disparity, said @M_S_Billingslea, Treasury’s former chief for terrorist financing, suggests only one plausible explanation: “Sanctions evasion.”

A U.S. firm linked to China's missile program won a $2M deal to test equipment for a major U.S. Army project.
According to a Kharon investigation, the Colorado-based company — which is testing equipment for a $2 billion combat vehicle modernization program — shares a founder, owner, and deep business ties with a Chinese firm the U.S. had placed on its export-restricting Entity List less than three months before.
And that Beijing affiliate traces up to one of the primary state-owned contractors for China's own defense and space programs.
