I tried to use AI to replace a human editor.

For 17 years, we've published our annual industry report.

I uploaded the 43-page PDF and asked the AI to find all the errors.

It found spelling mistakes, grammar issues, and inconsistencies. Impressive!

I did my own review after and caught a few more things.

"We're good to go," I thought.

I was feeling confident... until my marketing director took a look.

He found issues the AI completely missed.

Dates from last year's report hadn't been updated and pie chart sections didn't add up to 100%.

These weren't just typos—they were factual errors that would damage our credibility.

That's when it hit me.

Cutting corners isn't on brand for us.

Quality is our north star, especially for something as important as this report.

So I swallowed my pride and reached out to our copy editor.

"I need your help," I wrote in the email.

The lesson?

AI can help with first pass, but humans still catch what machines miss.

Quality work requires human oversight.

When your reputation is on the line, don't skip the steps that made you successful.
