EC-Earth scientists from BECC & sister SRA MERGE i.a met in Lund to discuss next generation Earth System models & EC-Earth4, reviewing new science & technology in Earth system modelling, revisit science outcome of EC-Earth3, etc. Speakers i.a: @dmidk@SMHI@ECMWF@BSC_CNS@KNMI

Our paper goes online in @NatureClimate! We examined El Niño behavior over thousands of years in multimodel ensemble after increased CO2, and found robust reduced El Niño amplitude after several hundred years in all models, even though large variations on short time scale.
...if only my screen were bigger, you do not fit all in one picture! #ECEARTH21 thank you all for the fruitful inputs, discussions and all the presentations, see you all at the next #ECEARTH meeting! @ShutingDK@dmidk
Perfect weather to stay inside and attend the virtual #ECEARTH meeting 8-11 February! @ShutingDK and our @dmidk team will be online for the next 4 days, with 150 attendees and more than 30 presenters
Great joint of the #ice2ice project and the summary paper on abrupt Arctic climate changes - just out today in @NatureClimate! Current Arctic temperature increase is seen comparable to the abrupt changes during the D-O events in the last glaciation... https://t.co/gvJnGQ6vlC….
Decline on global airtraffic during the #COVID19 is also likely to have negative impact on short range weather forecasting at DMI. Past weeks have seen a gradual and significant decline on the amount of assimilated aircraft data in the DMI operational models HARMONIE-COMEPS.
Timo Vihma’s conclusion of excellent talk on Arctic-mid latitude linkages at #CryosphericExtremes. Stresses complexity of the linkages, direct vs indirect effects, and dependency on region and season. The question is not “if”, but “how” and “how much”!
