Chaired the #BRICSIndia2026 FMM session on ‘Reforms of Global Governance and Multilateral System’.
Underlined the need for credible and reformed multilateralism in world that is more interconnected, complex and multipolar.
Highlighted :
➡️ The centrality of UN reforms including of the Security Council. Without expansion of both permanent and non - permanent categories, UN’s effectiveness and credibility will remain constrained.
➡️ The timely need for text-based negotiations to take UN reforms forward.
➡️ The urgency of international financial architecture reforms, enabling MDBs to become more responsive, robust and equipped. As well as increasing accessibility of development and climate finance.
➡️ The importance of a rules-based, fair, open and inclusive international trading system with WTO at its core, responding to challenges of non-market practices, concentration of supply chains and uncertain market access.
The message from our times is clear - Cooperation is essential. Dialogue is necessary. Reform is overdue.
This evening, had a productive exchange of views with FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia here in Delhi.
Our conversation touched upon several aspects of the 🇮🇳🇷🇺 Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership, including trade & investment, energy & connectivity, science & technology, as well as facilitating mobility of skills & talent.
Other global and multilateral issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
Pleased to welcome my colleagues at #BRICSIndia2026 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi today.
We are meeting at a time when the world is increasingly complicated and uncertain, with severe impacts on emerging markets and developing countries.
Underlined the need for:
➡️ More effective response to challenges to energy, food, fertiliser and health security.
➡️ Unimpeded and safe maritime flows through international waterways, vital for global economic well-being.
➡️ Securing reliable supply chains and diversified markets for economic resilience.
➡️ Addressing climate change while upholding principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities.
➡️ Leveraging technology for good governance and inclusive growth. While addressing concerns of trust, transparency and equitable access.
➡️ Addressing challenges to international peace and security through dialogue and diplomacy. And stronger cooperation against terrorism.
➡️ Reformed multilateralism, including reform of UN Security Council in both permanent and non - permanent categories.
#IndiaBRICSChairship is geared toward building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. Confident that #BRICSIndia2026 discussions will be useful towards achieving a more stable, equitable and inclusive international order.

✅ Institutions such as the New Development Bank and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement demonstrate BRICS ability to create credible alternatives.
Also shared that #IndiaBRICSChairship is working to make BRICS more robust, agile, adaptive, people-centric, and focus on priorities of the Global South through:
➡️ Efforts to strengthen supply chains, diversify markets, improve early warning systems, build climate-resilient infrastructure, and digital integration for social welfare to enhance 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

Today, India takes a defining step in its civil nuclear journey, advancing the second stage of its nuclear programme.
The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has attained criticality.
This advanced reactor, capable of producing more fuel than it consumes, reflects the depth of our scientific capability and the strength of our engineering enterprise. It is a decisive step towards harnessing our vast thorium reserves in the third stage of the programme.
A proud moment for India. Congratulations to our scientists and engineers.
