The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has attained criticality.
This advanced reactor, capable of producing more fuel than it consumes, reflects the depth of our scientific capability and the strength of our engineering enterprise. It is a decisive step towards harnessing our vast thorium reserves in the third stage of the programme.

BLW deserves to be taken up as a serious case study in Indian B-schools, which at times tend to focus only on big-name narratives. While 572 locos is an impressive figure, the more telling detail is the export of 10 diesel locos to Mozambique in the same record yr.
These exported 1s are 3300 HP Cape Gauge (1067 mm) locos.
India’s tracks are Broad Gauge (1676 mm). This means BLW is running a dual-reality assembly line. To hit the record of 572, engineers had to calibrate the precision of the 558 electric giants while simultaneously building narrower engines for a different continent.
BLW is a bespoke tailor for global rail requirements.

We have won the tender by the Czech Ministry of Transport @min_dopravy for the international Ex36 line.🇨🇿🇩🇪 From 13 December 2026, our trains will operate on the route Prague – Pilsen – Regensburg – Munich, running in a regular two-hour interval, up to 8 times a day. Passengers can look forward to modern air-conditioned trains made available through our strategic partnership with @Renfe with speeds of up to 200 km/h, Wi-Fi, power sockets, onboard refreshments, and space for passengers with reduced mobility, bicycles and strollers. We believe that the quality of service and comfort we bring played an important role in the selection process.
