So if you go to https://t.co/e8wyX15Bhk you will see the memo regarding the USCIS benefits pause. It says last updated 3/30. Well, guess what? It changed sometime after 4/27 and I'm guessing it was probably today given the horribly shameful news that researchers who were working on the pancreatic cancer AI diagnosis breakthrough have been caught up in the illegal USCIS benefits pause. The second screenshot below is what the paragraph with a new physician exception looked like two days ago.
🚨ANOTHER VICTORY TODAY 04/29!🚨
Following our victories last week and on Monday, today Magistrate Judge Alex Tse ordered @USCISJoe@uscis to do their jobs and #PressUnpause on the #USCISpause for the plaintiffs from 🇮🇷🇻🇪🇨🇺🇳🇬 within 180 days.

Legal immigrants from 39 countries have been affected with a “temporary hold” since December 2nd and no progress has been reported by USCIS so far. This period of time includes two major semesters for graduates. Many professionals and students have lost the work authorization, income and insurance because of #USCISPause. #LiftTheHold
@JudiciaryDems The government halted cases and work permits of EVERY immigration category of LEGAL immigrants born in 39 countries, pushing us out of jobs and out of status, so they can feed ICE. We need your voice #USCISpause#LiftTheHold#PressUnpause

Donald Trump indefinitely paused most legal immigration processing.
Immigrants and our communities who rely on them have no idea what will happen next.
We need an independent investigation to find out.
This is surreal.
Law-abiding, contributing immigrants, including long-serving physicians, are being stripped of their jobs and dignity solely because of where they were born, despite following every rule and serving our communities for years.
These are the same doctors who stood on the front lines of COVID and cared for veterans and underserved rural communities. Now they are being pushed out.
The damage is already here. Patients return after surgery to find their surgeon gone. Cancer patients are left mid-treatment when their doctor suddenly disappears because work authorization is delayed. Rural America is hit first and hardest.
This is not politics. This is patient care.
It must stop, before more communities lose essential doctors and more patients are abandoned in the middle of care.

How about the U.S.-trained, board-certified physicians from the 39 affected countries who are already INSIDE the United States and currently caring for American patients, yet are also being trapped by this ban/indefinite pause solely because of their country of birth?
They cannot extend their legal status, renew work permits, or obtain green cards. Almost no one is talking about this, and there has been only minimal organizational pressure to secure an exception.
This is a patient care continuity crisis hiding in plain sight. It will become impossible to ignore in July, when graduating residents and fellows are supposed to begin their waiver jobs in rural America.

@David_J_Bier In the "certain petitions" - I think they mean the ones where Judges have issued TROs...
Meanwhile the travel ban for 39 countries is still in place, along with the 75 country public charge pause for immigrants that can't use those benefits, and the complete DV lottery pause.
DHS says the change lets resources "focus on rigorous vetting for higher-risk cases." Critics say this punishes legal immigrants who are fully complying with U.S. immigration law.
Those 39 countries include Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Nigeria, Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, and more. The freeze affects not just asylum but green cards, work permits, and citizenship applications too.
@RepMariaSalazar@SecMullinDHS Thank you representative! I wish you included nationals from other countries as well as they have all come here legally , vetted thoroughly without any criminal history, and have been here for a long time. They are currently in limbo and a lot of people have lost jobs!
The ongoing USCIS pause is creating severe and immediate hardship for lawfully present students and professionals across the U.S. Many of us have fully complied with every legal requirement, passed extensive background checks, and built our lives here—yet now face losing our work authorization, jobs, health insurance, and financial stability with no clear timeline or explanation.
This is not just a policy delay—it is affecting real people who are contributing to critical sectors of the U.S. economy and society. Indefinite uncertainty undermines both due process and basic fairness.
@USCISJoe@SecMullinDHS we respectfully urge you to resume timely adjudications or provide clear guidance and transparency for those impacted.

Thousands of lawfully present students and professionals are facing growing hardship due to the USCIS pause—risking their jobs, work authorization, health insurance, and basic stability despite full compliance with the law.
We respectfully ask for fairness, transparency, and timely adjudication. Please lift the hold.
