I wish it was socially appropriate to thank 'Cabernet Sauvignon' on your thesis acknowledgment...
I will write an ode to wine!
It certainly helped me get through my PhD.
... and if case you're wondering, I'm enjoying some wine tonight!
😊🍷

A thread and a flowchart! Things I wish I had when I was thinking of starting a PhD (I'm lucky that I got a TT job, but still think I could've made better choices) #phdchat#ecrchat
We’re socialized in academia to apply for jobs and then to wait. That’s not how most people get jobs beyond the professoriate, and that’s not even how many academics actually get jobs. Instead, networking is crucial!
Don't get stuck thinking that only people who have your degree will be useful to you understanding your career options. Many PhDs in non-faculty jobs are not drawing directly on their PhD research or expertise (yes, not everyone, but a lot!).
The skills you developed during your PhD will have an impact, wherever you go (and, yes, even if you're no longer researching and writing in your current field). #withaphd
ImaginePhD has a new feature! In many of our 15 Job Families, you can now find "job simulations" that will give you a hands-on experience with different kinds of work. #withaphd#phdchat
