This is because incase they do what they have sworn to never do ,the consequences should fall on their father including death . Just noticed something on a rewatch: the very first time Jade asks the question, the answer might already be sitting right behind Tom on a sign. It feels like the show has been hiding the truth in plain sight all along.

After the latest episode, with Clara admitting she made some kind of bargain with the Man in Yellow when she arrived, I'm starting to think the buried bones are only part of the solution. Retrieving them could finally eliminate the monsters as a threat in Season 5—but escaping Fromville may require a new bargain. My guess? Boyd will be the one forced to make that impossible trade.
