Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet has voted unanimously to close Al Jazeera’s operations in Israel.
Vote comes after the Knesset passed a law allowing the temporary closure of foreign broadcasters considered a threat to national security ⤵️
🚨The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the Israeli cabinet’s decision to shut down Al-Jazeera’s operations in Israel and warns that the vote could set a dangerous precedent for other international media outlets working in Israel. Our statement:

Al Jazeera condemned Israel's decision to shut down its network and raid its offices, stating that the channel ‘affirms its right to continue to provide news and information to its global audiences’ ⤵️
Through the war @AlJazeera has been reporting from inside Gaza, bringing most disturbing pictures to the world. You might agree on disagree with 🇮🇱 policies, but it has been brave journalism. As a result they are now banned by the 🇮🇱 government. https://t.co/mp3pthyCqy
"In a period of just 5 months, more children, more journalists, more medical personnel & more @UN staff have been killed than anywhere in the world during a conflict"
@UNLazzarini tells @UN General Assembly: the death toll in📍#Gaza is staggering, more than 30,000 people killed.
In just over four months in #Gaza, there have been more #children, more journalists, more medical personnel, and more @UN staff killed than anywhere in the world during a conflict.
It is with profound regret that I must now inform you that @UNRWA has reached a breaking point, with Israel’s repeated calls to dismantle it and the freezing of funding by donors at a time of unprecedented humanitarian needs in Gaza.

A steep rise in malnutrition among children and pregnant & breastfeeding women in Gaza is posing grave threats to their health and lives.
The situation is especially serious in the north, where 1 in 6 children under two is acutely malnourished. https://t.co/YcCZmyaZeA via @WFP
In north Gaza, 1 in 6 children under 2 years old is acutely malnourished.
An immediate humanitarian ceasefire is the only way to scale up the delivery of aid to those who need it most.

Many Afghans are destitute, struggling to feed themselves, living without access to education, healthcare or employment.
More than half the country’s population will require aid this year, but our humanitarian response plan has received less than 3% of the funds needed.
Disappointing that the Taliban declined to attend the special envoy meeting for Afghanistan in Doha this week.
We urge all sides to do more to hammer out deals that can benefit the long suffering Afghan people.
It’s vital to keep voices & rights of Afghan women front & centre.
As pressure mounts from the international community on Israel not to launch an offensive on Rafah, Benjamin Netanyahu indicates that he will not bow to it.

Hospitals have turned into a battleground in the war in Gaza but some incredibly brave British surgeons have been volunteering with @IdealsCharity to treat some of the 68,000 wounded

Taliban won’t attend Doha and oppose appointment of a Special Envoy—putting @antonioguterres in an awkward spot. The way forward shd be an envoy w/serious women’s rights expertise whose job is not engaging the Taliban but mobilizing a coordinated intl response to Taliban abuses.
I left Gaza with a broken heart and eyes filled with tears.
There was no other option after 108 days of continuous massacres against us.
It’s time to move somewhere else so I can do more work and I pray that I can be a reason to stop this war and help rebuild Gaza again.
I’ve arrived Qatar. Thank you
No time to rest
Keep calling for a ceasefire!

On this #InternationalDayOfEducation, let’s not forget the millions of Afghan girls who have been effectively denied access to secondary & tertiary education for two & half years. Let’s raise our voices for

“When global norms collapse, so does trust.
I am personally shocked by the systematic undermining of principles & standards we used to take for granted.”
