@DominicFarrell@Conservatives She is getting there, for sure. But where's the strength in depth? is there enough talent left there to assemble a cabinet? I suspect not.
It's absolutely baffling to see the backlash against this announcement.
Imagine complaining that the UK is securing a multi-billion-pound private investment.
Let's look at the actual numbers: taxpayers are funding £1.3bn for local roads & a new rail station. In return, Universal is spending £5 billion to build the park and another £1 billion operating it.
Bedford(& the UK) gets 28,000 total jobs, a massive revitalization of a former industrial site, & a projected £50 billion economic boost.
The sheer cynicism around projects like this is exactly what holds the UK back. If we treat massive, job-creating investments as something to be outraged about, we only guarantee our own economic stagnation.
@paullewismoney Hard to argue with the principle, but also seems we have reached a tipping point where too few are shouldering the burden. We simply can't afford the current trajectory.
@Cai_ParryJones Show us the data. If the data’s there, you have a case to support. But, as it stands, the only data out there points towards 20mph being a tiniest success in terms of preventing injuries & saving lives.
@mdvirgilio Children are expensive. Raising them well and doing your best to give them a head start is even more expensive. So it really easily precisely zero surprise that the majority of couples stop at two kids.
@supertolerant I grew up in a family where we never took holidays, went dor days out our had meals lot. I’m now in a panicky that does all of those things. I know which version I prefer.
@WISE16@lb_southwark Yep, fair point. I think we can all agree that the system is flawed, but I’m still not sure putting the brakes on development necessarily benefits anyone.
@WISE16@lb_southwark Perhaps not, but it’s 77 more than 0 based on my crude calculations. That’s 200+ currently in need of a home, who could have had one.
@s8mb On the one hand, yes, good point. On the other, he represents a company polluting rivers and beaches. Not his fault is isolation, but it’s pretty tone deaf under the circumstances.
