Today, Ukraine's long-range sanctions successfully struck important targets in Russia's Krasnodar and Stavropol regions – logistics hubs involved in supplying the Russian army with drone components, navigation equipment, and other gear – as well as another oil depot. In the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, a tanker and four cargo ships from Russia's shadow fleet were also hit. We thank all our warriors in Ukraine's Defense Forces for these results. We are, quite justly, bringing the war back home – to Russia. Peace is needed, and Ukraine has presented the Russian side with every proposal. They must be forced to turn to diplomacy. Glory to Ukraine!

I have decided that Mykhailo Drapatyi will become the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with Mykhailo, Yevhenii Khmara, and Pavlo Palisa, we determined how the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be reconfigured. It is a fact that Oleksandr Syrskyi delivered results for Ukraine in the defense of Kyiv, the Kharkiv offensive, and the Kursk operation. We have come a long way, Ukraine's defense continues, and every warrior must be treated with dignity. I am grateful to Oleksandr Syrskyi and to every one of our warriors for Ukraine's strong positions on the front. I am grateful to Mykhailo Drapatyi for sharing this vision. Today, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Andrii Hnatov, and I discussed future service formats and the proper handover of duties.

We all want the same thing: to defeat the enemy and create the conditions – on the front line and through pressure on Russia – that would allow us to force Russia into peace. Tomorrow, we will formalize all of these decisions. Ukraine must emerge from this situation stronger, and it will be harder for Russia. Glory to Ukraine!

Congratulations to Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi on his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This is a breath of fresh air and a new source of hope in the fight of free people for freedom and justice. It is the voice of change that could no longer be ignored.

Now, the high expectations of the Ukrainian people must be met with a clear vision for bringing the War of Independence to a successful conclusion, a strong team and decisive action focused on saving the lives of our service members, accelerating the robotization of the battlefield, delivering asymmetric strikes and exhausting Russia’s economy.

I also called General Oleksandr Syrskyi to thank him for the defense of the Kyiv region, the Kharkiv counteroffensive and other historic battles.

These achievements are already an important part of Ukraine’s history.

But now we must move even faster, write the next chapters of that history and correct the mistakes of the past.

Zelensky dismisses Gen Syrsky and names Gen Mykhailo Drapaty as new commander in chief.
Protests worked. Many in Ukraine rejoice at the choice. Drapaty, a hero of fighting for Mariupol back in 2014, is a favorite of many reformers.
Zelensky said he also offered a new job in the security sector to former defense minister Fedorov. No word on whether Fedorov accepted.
Ukraine once again shows that it’s a free country where leaders have to listen to public opinion.

Am Rande seines Berlin-Besuchs hat Aserbaidschans Präsident Ilham Aliyev indirekt ein deutsch-russisches Geheimtreffen in der aserbaidschanischen Hauptstadt Baku bestätigt.

Was wir längst wussten, ist nun kaum noch abzustreiten: Die alte Moskau-Connection aus SPD und CDU trifft sich weiterhin im Verborgenen mit engen Putin-Vertrauten.

Neu ist vor allem die Bestätigung des konkreten Treffens vom 12. Juli 2026. Das Netzwerk selbst ist nicht neu: Platzeck und Pofalla treffen sich laut Recherchen von Kontraste und Zeit bereits seit 2024 regelmässig mit russischen Abgesandten. Deutsche Sicherheitsbehörden bewerten diese Treffen offenbar als mögliche russische Einflussoperation.

Brisant bleibt: Es sind zwar ehemalige Amtsträger und damit formal keine offiziellen deutschen Unterhändler. Aber beim Kreml sitzen keine Privatpersonen am Tisch, sondern Putin-Vertraute. Das ist keine harmlose Gesprächsrunde, sondern der Versuch, alte Zugänge nach Deutschland offenzuhalten

Hier treffen ehemalige Spitzenpolitiker heimlich enge Putin-Vertraute, während Russland Krieg führt – ohne Auftrag der Bundesregierung und offenbar ohne die Ukraine am Tisch.

Das ist kein offizieller Verhandlungskanal. Es ist Schattenpolitik. Und selbst bei angeblich guten Absichten verschafft sie dem Kreml Zugang, Legitimität und die Möglichkeit, deutsche Debatten zu beeinflussen.

Der Kreml will Deutschland politisch spalten, Sanktionen und Ukraine-Hilfe lockern und die Rückkehr zu „normalen Beziehungen“ vorbereiten – möglichst bevor Russland dafür irgendwelche Zugeständnisse machen muss

I arrived in Kyiv late at night and a rocket attack began almost immediately. It was incredibly loud; the house was shaking and the doors were banging. After such a long journey, I had hardly any strength left. I’m so tired of these sleepless nights.

I also found myself thinking about my trip to Syria. As I stood amongst the ruins of what used to be a city, there wasn’t a single intact residential building as far as the eye could see.

The Russians were responsible for this horror in Syria. The Syrians had absolutely no way of protecting themselves from Russian missiles and bombs. If the Russians could, they would do exactly the same to us.
