After a decade of work, it’s exciting to see the labs’ cellular reprogramming tech going into patients. Thank you to all the scientists who worked hard to make this possible and congrats to the entire @lifebiosciences team! 🚀
Congrats @lifebiosciences team. Big thanks to our investors. Well done Jerry McLaughlin, Michael Ringel, Amit Shashank, Sharon Rozenzweig-L, Ivan Kaplan, @Serenapoon & team. Go ER-100🤞
Not sure we qualify as “startup” after 8 yrs & being in the clinic 😉

Today’s guest on the Free Radicals podcast is @M_S_Ringel, COO @lifebiosciences and former Managing Director at @BCG.
Michael is a leader in longevity and pharma who spent 25+ years advising top pharma companies on their R&D strategy. He is now COO at Life Biosciences where he is bringing the first ever partial epigenetic reprogramming therapy to human clinical trials - a major milestone for the longevity industry.
In this episode, we discuss Michael’s insightful paper on why aging is an optimization by evolution, why that means it’s malleable, and how to push the longevity field forward.
Michael also sits on the US board of @hevolution_f and on the board of the @AFARorg.
Be sure to follow me and @EricDai_BioE to stay up to date on the latest news in longevity biotech!

Oh wow — so cool to see two of my favorite examples that I’ve been using in my talks for close to a decade (rockfish lifespans spectrum from 10 to 200 years and the black garden ant queen’s 30-year lifespan vs. the worker’s 1-year [rather than a month — I think Michael misspoke]) getting wider airtime as evidence that aging is a programmed adaptation. The more people making this case, the better!
Here’s a video with relevant excerpts:
Every week, I tell one of my students to increase the font size on their slides, especially numbers. Here’s how you know you’re good:
Take 5 steps back from your laptop or monitor. If you can still read every letter & number clearly, you’re probably good 👍
For 25 years, my team has been told we were wrong, by scientists, big pharma, the media, ethicists, and trolls. It hasn’t been easy
Looking back, it was 100% worth it
Here’s why you should believe in yourself… 🧵
According to ITOA, NAD declines with age, causing epigenetic changes & disease susceptibility
In 2010, we showed NAD-dependent enzyme, SIRT3, protects the heart 🐁
New study says NAD precursor NMN protects the heart via SIRT3 in mice fed a Western diet
Why's that important? 🧵
In 2006, we reported the longevity & metabolic benefits of resveratrol in mice
Now, after 40 human trials with 2,551 patients, resveratrol is reported to significantly lower insulin resistance, lipids, BP & inflammation
Discovery. Translation. Progress.

Longevity’s strongest correlate is having a dependable partner.
We are creatures whose optimal biology requires tight social bonds, presumably because our ancestors’ survival once depended on them.
For optimal health, rebel against today’s antisocial society 💪
