Quaker, father, environmental lawyer with @WCELaw. Interested in #ClimateChange, Fossil fuel company accountability & spirit-led economics. My views are my own.
@TELUSsupport Been on hold for > an hour, so asking here: Last 48 hrs internet has periodically dropped for a few seconds, across multiple devices, interrupting streaming, calls, etc. I've tried rebooting router. Something going on with your network in Esquimalt? R U on this?
@solarphreak@catabreu_ The legislation requires a "high level" plan to achieve this target next year, and a detailed plan 5 years before the target. Fair from ideal, but there is some accountability baked in - but less so when targets aren't announced on schedule.
Where is Canada's 2035 climate target? The deadline established in Canadian law to set the country's next climate milestone passed yesterday, without a word from government.

@VanPoliMorphus@WCELaw This statement is a good example, but also provides links to several studies showing that the #carbontax is having an effect. https://t.co/NcR6tzYrEE
@VanPoliMorphus@WCELaw Politicization, flip-flopping of climate policy is the problem. BC law created an arms-length team of experts, Climate Solutions Council, which has consistently affirmed that the carbon tax is reducing per capita emissions, as have several economists and other experts.
Premier Eby said that BC NDP would drop the #CarbonPrice if federal gov drops it. Think the #CarbonTax is costly? Wait until you see #ClimateChange. We respond to calls to rollback #ClimateAction without proposing realistic alternatives: https://t.co/QaiBNtxK7a #bcpoli
@thx1979@WCELaw@PatrickBWeiler To clarify - I am not saying that everyone who acknowledges #climatescience has to agree that a #carbonprice is the best way to fight it. But we do not hve the "privilege" to ignore the climate costs that we are already experiencing and which will only get worse.
@MikeP77Doglover@WCELaw Not true. Climate change would continue if Canada stopped polluting but every other nation continued but it would be slower, less costly and fewer people would die. The Canada I know takes responsibility for its own actions. #responsibility#cdnpoli
@wollyhock@WCELaw Heat dome in 2021 caused 600+ deaths, billions of dollars damages and was virtually impossible without #climatechange. Sea level rise is a slower process, but predicted to get faster in decades to come. https://t.co/LJk1kNWwWQ
@Moz9698 @WCELaw Courts in Canada, and elsewhere, have held that each government has a legal obligation to do its part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, reducing GHG emissions anywhere reduces the lives that will be lost from #climatechange.
🚨BREAKING: Chicago is suing Big Oil companies for climate deception!
“The fossil fuel industry should be able to pay for the damage they’ve caused. We have to see accountability for the climate crisis.”

@dave_pasin@AdrianeCarr@SueBigOil@Vote4ABC Any idea how much of the budget and taxes are due to climate change? You really don't think that fossil fuel companies (that knew their products were causing those costs decades ago) shouldn't pay anything?
@OvertheHor26822 @PresidentCLC Do you know how we know the climate has changed for many thousands of years? From the same climate scientists who tell us that it is now warming due to fossil fuel pollution at a faster rate than ever before. https://t.co/fnifkZ43SR
Canada has turned down a request from its own environment minister calling for an emergency order to protect 2,500 hectares of critical habitat in B.C.’s Fraser Canyon.

Rich Kruger CEO of Suncor will testify in Parliament on Monday morning.
In a summer where 200,000 Canadians were dislocated by catastrophic wildfire he boasted of the "sense of urgency" for Big Oil to make as much profit as possible.
Across BC, groups are organizing to get their local govs to #SueBigOil – and the campaign is gaining steam. Check out this great feature profiling local climate champions & volunteers raising this issue in their communities: https://t.co/7H1WORrrfg

Fossil fuel lobbyists have spent billions to convince us that serious #ClimateAction is too expensive or too inconvenient.
But the droughts, floods & fires are all around us. And they are massively expensive, inconvenient, heartbreakingly fatal. #ClimateEmergency#ClimateJustice
