Mining analyst Peter Major says he doesn't know whether the Mineral Resources Development Bill of 2025, which has been published for public comment, will attract investors to South Africa's mining sector.
Earlier, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said cabinet approved the publication of the bill, which she says addresses regulatory gaps that have long hindered the sector's potential. Major says a lot of legislation chased away investors in the sector.

I wasn’t crying. But thanks for your views, you raise some very good points. A lot of people I went to school with have relocated, Ireland / Netherlands / Canada / UK - so the younger (millennial/Gen Z) group are rolling out anyway. Not necessarily because there’s no opportunities for them here, but sometimes the ones they’re offered THERE are far better, for them. The narrative that they’re “running away” or “being chased” is misleading. They’re going because the offer for them in their most productive years - is better.
Now : that speaks to a problem of limited opportunities and limited growth in South Africa. Because black people of similar qualifications and age - are leaving too. Making it about Afrikaaners is a narrative I refuse to jump onto the band wagon of. The anointed know that the land act, was never about whites, Afrikaaners or farmers.
The target of that thing is the Zulu’s land. They want to take the Ingonyama Trust.
These are grant payers, you may call it tax payers. There is truth in your arguments, except, these are not poor people. This is the middle class. Not rich enough to leave or live in a well protected area and not poor enough to live on grants. The grants are getting more and the grant payers are getting less. Most white middle class are getting to retirement age. They will most likely not leave, but will not be grant payers much longer. They will retire silently in some rural area. No more grants from them. The younger middle class now has the opportunity to build a future somewhere else too. Something that they couldn’t afford, but they were paying grants. The youth has been leaving for quite some time now and I expect they, together with the middle class are going to grab this opportunity. You’re going to miss the grants. We’ve been told we are invaders, we must leave. Now that someone is making it possible, it’s a problem? Cry some more.
@pavlovs_khat@Shady_Lurker Struggling afrikaaners are no different from struggling South Africans. Why should they be treated differently beacuse they're Afrikaans ?
I guess Trump should also take in struggling Afrikaans speaking coloureds then.

"The EFF and the MK Party want the ANC collapsed now, not tomorrow. If they get a chance, I can tell you now. If you say the ANC must work with @MkhontoweSizwex and EFF, two possibilities happen. The first possibility is that you will go to Parliament thinking they will elect you; they will make a deal at the door and elect John Steenhuisen." - Bheki Mtolo
