Whatever you think about DPRK, etc. Them doing a heist and stealing billions is actually-existing reparations and I would like it if more Global South nations had the capacity to do that; since treatlers keep having their way, it will have to be taken.
Kwame Toure explains that while he never looked to the Soviet Union for his model of socialism, he would never actively attack them because revolutionaries should never waste an ounce of their energy attacking the enemies of U.S. and western imperialism.
If you're defending calling the Cuban government a dictatorship, when their system is literally more democratic than ours, you're not a socialist. You are a willful puppy of empire building consent for US intervention. Solidarity with Cuba is a basic tenet.
What a pathetic waste of our already limited working class funds. Why is a millionaire asking the working class to donate to him because another millionaire hurt his feelings!?
The DSA left is deeply unserious
You SHOULD support and vote for Angie Nixon exactly because of her material distinctions from Ashley Moody in foreign & domestic policy.
However, DO NOT mischaracterize this for meaningful solidarity.
When Obama pursued normalization with Cuba in 2015, there were legitimate critiques from the U.S. left about opening Cuba to private capital and facilitating capitalist restoration. Cool. But in Miami, where anticommunist politics have dominated, Cuban sentiment toward ending the blockade was more favorable than ever. Now, 67% of South FL Cubans support Trump’s genocidal oil blockade + sanctions on Cuba.
What did we do with that political opening in 2015? How did we organize around it, consolidate those gains or build an anti-imperialist movement capable of sustaining that pressure? Many just had…critiques.😐
Fast forward to 2026. Cuba faces an increasingly genocidal siege. And we’re still having the same debates, now reduced to clickbait over whether a Black progressive Senate candidate in FL uses the correct language about Cuba, while the material policy distinctions b/w her opposition to the blockade and her opponent’s support for it, are obscured.
I’m not suggesting we suspend ideological critique or excuse liberal rhetoric that reproduces justifications for U.S. intervention. I’ve criticized that rhetoric repeatedly. I’m asking what that critique is for and how it informs political strategy, organization and building of collective power.
Being able to identify every contradiction in a political opening is not the same as having the organizational capacity to seize it. And the ppl suffering under intensified U.S. aggression cannot afford for our politics to begin and end with being the most ‘correct’ online.
