Worth noting that a) Blake didn’t know it was Chris Kaba driving the car so this information isn’t relevant to an unarmed Black man being killed, and b) we don’t have capital punishment in this country
Two tier policing?
Chris Kaba was a 'core member' of one of London's most dangerous gangs who had gunned down rival days before being shot by police https://t.co/YPqlgiFtjQ
The UK has both a moral and legal duty to address the injustices of the past.
Refusing to address our country's role in enslavement and colonialism speaks volumes about the regard in which we hold people who still live with their impact.

I just don’t accept that you can be a socialist, humanitarian, anti-racist or internationalist & have nothing to say about people being burnt in tents, purely because they are Palestinians - a people who’ve been brutalised for more than a century. (1/2)
'Focusing on diversity ignores the historical context of policing, the fact that people of colour can uphold racist systems, and the experiences of officers of colour.'

All of it’s connected, you just don’t understand how.
BREAKING 🚨 Almost half of people claiming Universal Credit ran out of food in the last month and did not have enough money to buy more.
Universal Credit is falling short and pushing people to food banks. People cannot wait for an economic turnaround to improve their current situations.
We urge the Government act. People facing hunger need immediate relief, and strong services in their communities.
The upcoming budget must strengthen social security to tackle hardship at the root.
Black men are seven times more likely to die from police restraint, while Black children are nearly seven times more likely to be strip-searched.
✍🏻@sjwalcott
Yet the far right continue to peddle the myth that communities of colour are policed favourably.

'The harm and trauma caused by the police goes back generations, so for the far-right to suggest that communities of colour are policed favourably is nothing short of racial gaslighting'
✍️ Our @sjwalcott debunks the 'two-tier' policing myth @onlinehyphen https://t.co/AlaDqhcZ5x
@RunnymedeTrust's @sjwalcott debunks the myth of two-tier policing:
"Black men are seven times more likely to die following police restraint, while Black children are nearly seven times more likely to be strip-searched."
“The far right’s idea of two-tier policing… serves no purpose other than to pit communities against each other and push a racist agenda. It is merely an attempt to legitimise the anger of the rioters”
Me for @onlinehyphen 👇🏽
The myth of 'two-tier policing' has become a narrative that ignores the stark differences between peaceful movements for social change and violent racist riots.
@RunnymedeTrust's @sjwalcott writes how the conspiracy theory impacts community cohesion.

@ChildrensComm 'Strip searches cause disproportionate, racialised harm. They are traumatic and humiliating, with long lasting effects such as anxiety, depression and lower educational attainment.'
🗣️ Our @sjwalcott on why we're calling for an immediate end to the strip search of children.
Thanks @tribunemagazine for opportunity to write this. I continue to be dismayed by the fact that what should have been the worst PR disaster for far-right ideas, has instead been an undisturbed opportunity to set the agenda and frame the issues raised. Discussed 👇🏾
'This is what happens when political parties across the spectrum pursue hostile environment immigration policies over decades to distract from economic and political failings.'
✍️ Our Head of Policy @kapoor_alba for @The_NewArab 👇 https://t.co/G1OeKmsxwq
We cannot let emboldened racists dictate political discussions - calling these riots what they are is the bare minimum, but we need a wider, bolder, more active coalition of anti-racists to achieve peace. There’s no alternative
As many feared for so long, this racist violence is the continuation of the ‘hostile environment’ and the broader demonisation of migrants, people of colour and Muslims to distract from economic failure, legitimised by the media
But it’s also a result of silence - the shying away from calling racist policies racist, turning a blind eye to inflammatory language, avoiding so-called controversy for fear of ‘reputational damage’ or being considered 'too woke'. That’s complicity.
This is the inevitable, devastating, outcome of rising Islamophobia that's enabled to fester on social media, in mainstream media, and by our political class.
Our thoughts are with the people of Southport, and British Muslims across the country.
