Feels like you spend so much of the year looking for scarcer species, that you almost forget to make the most of some of our resident birds. Crossbills galore in the forest country of Nottinghamshire yesterday, love winter birding here.
Swifts are one of many species in rapid decline because of human activity.
If we don't act, the time will come when they no longer return to our towns and villages.
I'm backing the campaign to get Swift Bricks in new builds and bring back hope for these brilliant birds. 🪶
Beacon Hill CP, L&R - Snow Bunting showed well this AM (thanks to B Ingram for finding). My first since 2018 but there was one at the same site in Dec 2023 which I didn’t see. @LandRbirds
Nice morning bird ringing at Marston STW with a nice variety of birds. Three Cetti's Warblers, Water Rail, Kingfisher and Snipe shown, plus another Moorhen colour ringed for @Au_Erithacus for her project.
Stanford Reservoir - the 3 Glossy Ibis arrived from their roost at 06.30 and fed for 30 mins before flying off as they did yesterday. Such a great bird to have on the patch.
