A bit about me (a thread)
My background is in automotive sales. I realized the ladder in that industry was one I didn’t want to climb and transitioned to tech.
I hit 150%+ of my meetings booked quota and 250%+ of my meeting held quota during my ramping month.
@paolo_scales Most of the best sellers at enterprise live in Linkedin. I can’t give up the sauce completely but there are multiple ways to get into these accounts/contacts consistently
A lot of SDR’s have very bad “nice guy” syndrome
It’s a hard thing to beat because it’s psychological and not strategy-based
People buy from salesmen with conviction and confidence
If this is you, do whatever you can to fix this mindset, not only for work but life in general
@justineliaa Objectively false. There are entire enterprise functions paying very good money to SDR’s that wouldn’t exist if there wasn’t a clear ROI.
Anecdotally I myself have secured meetings with companies totaling over $750B in GMV, it’s possible
All of this talk on X recently about not knowing anyone making $70k a year.
Reading through puts things further into perspective about tech sales.
Many between 25-30 will make $200k+
We aren’t saving lives, but we’re saving ours. Magical spot to be in. Stay grateful.
SDR Manager might be one of the most slept on positions in tech
Typically $180k OTE+ (tier 1 cities) plus high base, more equity than IC’s (on average)
Management certainly isn’t for everyone and you should build a strong resume beforehand
Perfect for those excited by coaching
Instead of watching an hour of Netflix, watch this 2 hour hour Stanford lecture will teach you more about how LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude are built than most people working at top AI companies learn in their entire careers.
Two Anthropic engineers spent 24 minutes exposing every Claude Code feature you didn't know existed.
Most people will scroll past this. Don't be most people.
@thesaleslad A large portion of Upwork contracts are founders and teams who create or host products and services but realize quickly they dont make money off them without sales.
I’ve found it’s best to be consultative on Upwork, the smartest will listen to good advice.
I’m constantly astounded by the amount of money a lot of professions make and their hours worked.
Years of school and 60+ hour weeks for 120k. Pre-tax.
I don’t claim to cure cancer in tech, it’s bag chasing.
But if you’re in it now, it’s golden age. Count your blessings.
I’m an SDR manager at one of the hardest companies in the world to break into right now.
If you’re looking for an SDR gig at a top company (or any sales role for that matter) and you’re not running a full cadence for your hiring team?
You’re not even getting looked at.
If you’re in sales, why would you not embellish your resume?
Not necessary to lie completely, but give yourself as much of an edge as you can sell in interviews.
You’re in sales for a reason, use that skill to level up, you’ll hardly regret it.
@GeorgeDoesItt I’m hot, I know what works right now unlike a lot of managers who have been out of the IC game for a while.
I also like being able to shape younger people early in their career.
I can’t lie, the compensation is also extremely attractive compared to where I’d be AE-wise.
I’ve been a top 5% SDR for a couple years, captured a lot of fortune 500 companies at the ENT level.
Now I’m moving into an SDR manager role at a different rocketship org for a $200k+ package.
Wondering why more killer SDR’s don’t do this besides difficulty of interviews
