@FirstGenCollege Thank you for asking these essential questions! Public health and safety is a reality that needs more than the attention paid to a social media post.
@FirstGenCollege@FirstGenCollege do you have blue or orange tinted computer glasses? In college if I was on the computer + drinking coffee + hormonal it almost always equaled a migraine. I hope you figure out a plan. 👍🥱
@DrBradJohnson@bradjohnson thanks for the eloquent summation. I homeschooled children for 10 years before they went to private hs, great colleges, and 1 to becoming a teacher himself. It’s parents everywhere, not teachers, leaping on the notion they are now “homeschooling” w/o all the tools.
@CollParCentral Students don’t always sleep when adults expect them to sleep. College students catch naps between classes, or sleep in on non - class days. Try replacing “you should get to bed earlier” with “how can I help you find realistic ways to sleep, handle stress, and rest?”
How you spend your time says something about who you are. Extracurricular activities are your interests. Family responsibilities are your reality. @smallstepsgo
Students! Your family responsibilities count as activities on the @CommonApp:
🔸Supervising a sibling
🔸Regularly assisting a grandparent or adult relative
🔸Routinely taking care of household tasks like cooking, cleaning & running errands
🔸Working to provide family income
I was a first gen college student in the 1980s. Many issues are the same now. There are new challenges and accomplishments—this recognition is an accomplishment! #smsllstepsgoplaces#goingtocollege101
