@ItsSamG Wearing masks is most def protective, but everyone has to do it for it to be beneficial (e.g. S Korea). STATS: If both POS and NEG persons wearing...risk transmission 1.5%. If POS person not wearing mask and NEG person is....70%. And yes @ItsSamG ....I know you bein sarcastic.
“Next time you have surgery, the surgeon will refuse to wear a mask.”
“But I might get an infection!!”
“OH. SO YOU DO UNDERSTAND when you’re the one at risk”

@stephenthyde Is making people wear pants a violation of civil rights? That’s ridiculous. Rules change in a pandemic. Too many “privileged” people...this is out of control. 👎🏼
In 1st mo, 1% (4/393) of febrile infants with + UA had bacterial meningitis. In the 2nd mo, zero pts w/ +UA had meningitis (0/697). Abstract presented at #SAEM20 https://t.co/qFhQ6licaq Stay tuned for full pub. @mahajanpemdoc@HRSAgov @EMSCImprovement #PEM#PECARN#PEMpearls
Boom, Congress members calling out the PE backed ED staffing companies. Billionaires who are cutting the pay of front line EM physicians. Time to clean house in EM. #noPEinEM. @aaeminfo@AAEMRSA
@nickmmark@RogerAlvarezDO Remember arterial oxygen content equation. CaO2 = 1.34*hgb*SaO2/100 + (pao2x.0031). Just bc your sats with normal hgb are 70-80% doesn’t mean there’s a severely low level of O2 to cause dyspnea. Anemic pt with 100%sat and hgb 8 has less CaO2 than hgb 15 and 80%sat.
@ArgaizR 2/2. The Low O2 sat alone shouldn’t make them dyspneic necessarily. If they also have some bronchospasm, pn, anxiety etc. it will prob translate to increased WOB. Have seen several patients like this and they’re not dyspneic. Much like the anemic patients with hgb of 8.
@ArgaizR@jminardi21@jeremyfaust@AliRaja_MD@Rick_Pescatore I think we get much too focused on “O2 sats” rather than the real concern. Arterial O2 content. CaO2=HGB*1.34*(SaO2/100). Remember that your “happy hypoxemic” with sats 70% and hgb 14 has more CaO2 than your hgb8 sat100%. 1/2
