I very much want the PWHL to continue to expand and grow the game, but watching it happen in real time makes me realize why the NHL had only six teams for 25 years
As a side note, people are grossly overestimating median salaries in big cities. $40k USD is above the median individual salary in Toronto.
Ideally players should make more, but they’re earning, at like minimum, > 50% of the population in their city. That’s an ok starting point
The PWHLPA has voted to publicly disclose player salaries for the first time.
A guide is now available on the PWHLPA website revealing all salaries for the 2025-26 season.

Like yeah the league’s 3 years old and makes ~$15m a year, so there’s not a lot of money to go around.
But people watch, and viewership, merch, ticket sales, etc are increasing substantially YOY. Need a tv deal + only 30 games is an issue but it’s obviously gonna grow
Then there’s the odd think piece about the Rantanen trade as if 2 elite players making $24M a year combined is somehow inconceivable in a rising cap world
Every day there’s a tweet from this account quoting Friedge or Marek saying something like “Robertson might sign, he might not, who knows 🤷♂️” and gets quote tweeted with the most god awful, rage inducing mock trades you’ve ever seen
Elliotte Friedman: I think Jason Robertson's gonna be an interesting one, I think the Stars will have a line and I'm not convinced they'll be willing to go past that line...around Mikko Rantanen's number - DMase Vingan & Daunic (5/7)
@LEHK0NEN@Wirfs2Canton Haha sorry yeah should clarify that I meant EH and HockeyStats rely on priors more than sG, so using them in a “who deserves the hart” conversation is kind of mute
Also agree about Celebrini
@LEHK0NEN@Wirfs2Canton Aren’t those cards also 3 year weighted average?
For the sake of a *yearly* award, no input from previous years should matter for this context
Undrafted rookie on a league min deal the next 2 years spoke to the media but two players with some of the biggest contracts in Stars history didn’t? #whatdatmean
Justin Hryckowian on his effort/and the Dallas Stars’ performance in the playoffs.
“We didn't get the job done, so that sucks. Obviously, I think we all want to go on a run and win the thing. I think all the intentions were there. I think we did some good things, maybe, and but ultimately, you gotta preform and have some gotta have a big moments or a big play in a big time.
And felt like, you know, personally, I didn't deliver there and didn't hold up my end of the bargain.”
The top 5v5 scoring chance creating defencemen in round one of the NHL playoffs, per @PDOcast:

4. Sean Durzi
5. Kris Letang

If I had a nickel for every time a Canadian team closed out a playoff series over a no income tax state team being outshot 3-1, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it’s happened twice
