GPT-6 Astra is my favorite model of all time and it's not really close

I wonder how many people using AI are developers/programmers and how many are non-tech people.

When it comes to who uses AI and how, I find it incredible how much focus is placed on people who write code, when most AI users probably don’t write code at all.

And this whole “why do you need a high level of intelligence if you don’t code?” attitude strikes me as elitist and condescending. It implies that non-technical people somehow belong to a lower class, the so-called “normies” who can never quite rise to the level of the initiated.

Maybe some developers should remember that without the so-called “normies,” a huge part of consumer and business software would have no market at all. A substantial part of the software industry exists precisely because non-technical people use what developers build.

Not all the “normies” want to get married to 4o, and they don’t all use AI just to organize emails, summarize PDF documents, plan trips, or ask about the weather 🙄 either. Anyone who can’t think beyond these use cases, which have been repeated ad nauseam in marketing, isn’t exactly doing very well in the imagination department.

I’m honestly getting tired of this question:

“Why does anyone need Astra-level intelligence in regular Chat?”

Because Chat is literally where most people interact with AI.

They use it to learn, think, write, research, plan, understand difficult subjects, solve everyday problems and explore ideas. Better intelligence improves ALL of that. You don’t suddenly stop benefiting from a smarter model because you aren’t writing code.

The future I want is not AGI locked behind developer tools for people building software. It’s pocket AGI available to normal people, even if all they want to ask today is what the hell a toilet valve does.

And this isn’t some philosophy I invented for OpenAI. Their own mission is to ensure AGI “benefits all of humanity,” and their current principles explicitly talk about democratization, broad access and resisting concentration of capability in the hands of a few.

So yes, I care about powerful models in Chat.

That is where “benefits all of humanity” actually becomes a product people can touch.

Rage Prompts Are the New Rage Clicks

Remember rage clicks? When users frantically clicked a broken button over and over?

AI has the same thing now.

Rage prompts:
→ “I JUST SAID don’t touch the CSS”
→ “Why are you doing this again”
→ “That’s the THIRD time you’ve broken the same thing”
→ “Forget everything. Start over.”

Rage clicks showed designers where the UI was broken.
Rage prompts show AI companies where the model is broken.

The difference?
Almost nobody is reading them.

I’ve received a LOT of messages from Plus users about Astra.

People are not asking OpenAI for 3,000 Astra messages per week.

They’re saying: give us 20. Give us 50. Give us 100. Just give Plus users SOME access to the flagship model in regular Chat.

And honestly, they have a point.

The confusion is largely OpenAI’s own fault. Their Help Center says Astra is coming to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, while the very same article says Astra is rolling out in Chat as GPT-6 Pro and “is not included with ChatGPT Plus in Chat.”

For people who have always experienced new flagship models through ChatGPT itself, that distinction is incredibly unintuitive.

Work and Codex access is great, but it is not the same thing as being able to open a normal conversation and actually talk to Astra.

If compute is the problem, limit it aggressively. 20, 50, 100 messages. Whatever is economically sustainable.

But launching your new flagship, telling Plus users they’re getting access, and then making the actual Chat model unavailable to them was always going to create this mess.

OpenAI needs to clarify this properly.

OpenAI’s updated Help Center says GPT-6 Astra is NOT included in regular ChatGPT Chat for Plus users.

Normal Chat access:

✅ Pro $100
✅ Pro $200
✅ Business
✅ Enterprise
❌ Plus

Plus users still get limited Astra access through ChatGPT Work and Codex, just not in regular Chat.

So if you’re on Plus and waiting for Astra to magically appear in the normal model picker... yeah, that may not be happening under the current rollout.
