@stephenmaris@lukedsimmons So true and my past mistake. For me it’s an explanation of why we exist, organizational clarity, philosophy of ministry, core values, etc.
@ErikReed Making mistakes as elders can provide a lot to learn from and being able to learn from others past mistakes is huge. Love this. I tell the prospective elders we’re investing in all the time to ask me anything about my past unintentional mistakes as an elder.
@LifewayResearch People build relationships to share the gospel and then struggle sharing the gospel because of the fear that it would ruin their relationship they built with the person.
Had a fist-size cancer tumor suddenly removed from my brain Saturday. Apparently more treatment will come. It’s a long story but it was revealed 3wks ago that the devil was attacking me to interrupt the amazing work God was doing in our church. No idea it would be this. Let's go!
@jdgreear@TGC@ryanburge Oh for sure, but isn’t that the issue? It’s because they don’t see it as downstream and are not considering that their political views need to be in submission to their theology and informed by it.
@jason_howerton@lukedsimmons Why is this complicated?
“Hey pastor, could we grab a coffee and have a discussion about the whole Charlie Kirk situation and the church’s response?”
@JustinBuzzard Love this. Even when people disagree, they expect the church to offer something different than culture, and when we don't, we lose all credibility. My unsaved neighbors are telling me that we're making more sense to them as culture moves to the extremes.
@wagraham Words are defined, or should be understood, by their common use. So what always seems to be missing, when emphasizing the definition of "ekklesia", is that the word existed before the church did. It ignores the fact that the word was repurposed and took on new meaning in the NT.
@dklineii I agree, but what is the responsibility of team members to pay closer attention? I feel like if I'm constantly repeating myself, I can never move on to communicate new things.
@WesleyLHuff We are too often incapable of accepting that someone we've come to admire might have somewhat differing views than we hold, leaving us with the fretful realization we might just have to cancel them now.
@lukedsimmons I think pastors who take that position are thinking about what has to be given up to become big, and what being big brings into the mix that contributes to an unhealthy church. People I talk to who want to be part of a smaller church want to be known, not just part of the crowd.
@Sosthenes1976@lukedsimmons We can call them whatever, but we should definitely try to normalize serving and provide opportunities to participate in God’s work.
