@jeanpaulblartre@onionfuture@Arbeitologist I tried that once and had to kept winding it back to take it in anyway. Plus people talking that fast sounds ridiculous even when it's pitch-corrected.
@onionfuture@Arbeitologist The market, "working" but also failing in terms of utility. Ideally we would have both. I think video became so successful because it's so easy to produce via smartphone, everyone was primed for it by TV. Less effort/more passive than writing/reading on both sides of the market.
@onionfuture@Arbeitologist Youtube as an information resource used to annoy me. Watching 10 minutes of video to learn something that would take 2 minutes to read, unsearchable, unparsable, hard to refer back to. Now I have mostly accepted it because text internet search has become such a fucking disaster.
So, this is actually how being creative works. Star Wars succeeded because Lucas threw everything he had ever read or seen (Fu Manchu, fairy-tales, WWII films) onto the screen. No modern Star Wars has replicated his success because today’s writers have only seen Star Wars.
@joel_ca_c In Manchester my local chicken shop has gone bust twice and now has rebranded as a burger place that has new signs up but hasn't opened for several months
Should we be discussing Britain’s ‘long counter revolution’?
Raymond Williams’ ‘long revolution’ theorised Britain underwent sustained egalitarian advances through industrialisation and democratisation. We’ve arguably now been through half a century of reversals.
