I had so much fun visiting @YCataldo on his podcast and discussing the feels. Changing my life wasn’t very easy, but apparently it made for a great story :) https://t.co/gsWQlCvW6o
I used to think the service industry killed my Christmas Spirit, but now, as my mom reaches out to try to coordinate our plans, I realize it’s the repeated financial trauma. My nerves already miss Pandemic Christmas.
Wife: “I’m about to take a shower. Do you need to use the restroom?”
Me: *checks internally* “Nope - I already went and feel fine. Thank you for checking💕”
My gut, as SOON as the bathroom becomes unavailable: “Actually…”
@Masterfrogg@ConsueloBurrito @wolfnsunflowers When we’ve taken hours of our time to gently correct you and let you know why it’s harmful to label us this way, and you say “No, this is what feels comfortable to me, so it must be true”, it’s obvious to us your friends suffer and you don’t look for it.
@Masterfrogg@ConsueloBurrito @wolfnsunflowers Your refusal to listen to the experiences of people within the community because it contradicts the idea you’ve formed in your head about their experience let’s me know you definitely don’t actually understand your friends’ experience as much as you claim to.
@Masterfrogg@ConsueloBurrito @wolfnsunflowers Your friends have no “deficits” (as you put it), because their strengths align with what society values. That is all. But they are still HIGHLY affected by their autism. As someone who flies under the radar for most people, my internal experience is DIFFERENT.
Me: *can ONLY nap if I’m a passenger in a moving vehicle*
Wife: *nap queen who LOVES driving*
Me: *license expired after living in NYC for 10 yrs*
Wife: *finally gets to drive now that we moved to CA*
Me: *finally gets to nap*
Wife: … So when are you taking that drivers test?
