The Brazilian Left spent the last 7 years building an oppressive and aggressive censorship regime commanded by the globally notorious, scandal-ridden Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes. It was particularly intensifed during the 2022 campaign to suppress all sorts of criticisms of Lula, who won by a very small margin.

Now a Bolsonaro-appointed judge is using that same machine built by the left to censor all sorts of material used to support Lula's candidacy. And now the left is suddenly screaming about the evils of censorship and waving the banner of free speech: a value they spent years denigrating and mocking as an instrument of fascism or some kind of foreign/American concept that has no place in Brazil.

Even if you can't find any constitutional, ethical or moral reason to avoid building censorship regimes, your own self-interest should guide you away from it: it will be fun when you get to forcibly silence (or even imprison) your political enemies, but far less fun when that machine is controlled by those political enemies and, as is inevitable, then turned against you:
