Sharing useful videos & resources to support teaching and learning in LC Ag Science with special attention to achievements of our students in St. Oliver's CC
@HealyScience@IrishSciTeach@Mikekav66@Scienceteachire My advice...get clever with homework assignments and corrections. You will need to maximise your valuable class contact time. Set pieces of work that are easily self corrected or quickly corrected. Use questioning in class to find and address misconceptions quickly.
@HealyScience@IrishSciTeach@Mikekav66@Scienceteachire We see JC for 2 classes per week, harder to get to know them, then if they are out for an activity or you are away on a trip or have them on a Monday with bank holidays... investigations have to be short with easily changed variables or they won't get their results in 1 hour
@HealyScience@IrishSciTeach@Mikekav66@Scienceteachire We switched a few years ago. You won't have time at LC for lots of activities, you will struggle to get the course covered (HL BIO and Ag teacher here) and as for getting the mandatory exp done..they spill over into the next class so what took 1hr 20 now takes guts of 2hrs

5th Year @StOliversCC students learning about all things spud related with Maria @BallymakennyF with some regenerative ag thrown in! We even left with samples of the now famous Violetta Red Emmalie and Dunbarr potatoes. There's no better example of a niche ag market anywhere.
@hexagonlinks@StOliversCC@LorKeenan@McdonnellCora Thanks @hexagonlinks . Must check this out. We have been running PLCs or collaboratives for Ag Science teachers nationwide for 2 years with mixed results. Not within the same school but as a way to reduce the isolation of single subject specific teachers.
Fellow Ag Science teachers....Oide are running an Ag Science lab day in St. Oliver's CC in Drogheda this Saturday 23rd September. Covering several SPAs from the course and some activities applicable to the IIS and other learning outcomes. ๐ฎ๐ท๐ฑ๐
@KevinoHanlon12@NatOrgSkill @TeagascOrganics @AcademySoil Kevin why exactly are you zero grazing?Do you not want the cattle out on the MSS? Would you do this often with all types of grazing or just the MSS? Is it related to the ground conditions at the moment only or something you would do regularly with MSS? Thanks. ๐ค
