Y Combinator co-founder @paulg says he's constantly telling founders that all that matters is growth rate, not the absolute numbers.
His rationale is straightforward: mathematically, if your growth rate is high enough, it simply doesn't matter what the absolute numbers are.
"And the great thing about focusing on growth rate is you can focus on selling to startups for cheap, instead of having to go and do these big deals with big companies that take a long time and make your product stupider."
