An important moment today.
Greenland, Denmark and the United States have signed an agreement strengthening security in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
It’s been a bumpy ride. But here we are – with a deal in hand that we can all be very satisfied with.
We share a long history. And we share a responsibility for the security of our region. Today, we take another important step together – with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination.
History binds us together. Our future demands that we stand together. 🇬🇱🇩🇰🇺🇸
@annetteholliday Ok, so there could be information in maternity notes which is not contained in the transfer of care summary. Why would the information contained in the former not be relevant to the cases? This is the part I don't understand.
🗞️Dr Dewi Evans, the chief medical witness for the prosecution, said the full maternity notes were not relevant to the case.
"I never saw any obstetric notes and I have no idea what happened to them," he said.
"I don't think that maternity care was a particular issue in the Letby case. I think most of the babies I dealt with were born in acceptable condition."
🤔The last quote sounds worryingly sketchy given that #LucyLetby will never see the outside world again

NEW ANALYSIS: UK emissions fell 2.4% in 2025 as coal fell to a 400-year low. Incredibly, we used less coal last year than than in 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was writing Hamlet.

According to official birth registry data, in 1981 Spain had the highest sex ratio in the world (109 boys per 100 girls). Prior work attributed this anomaly to demographic/behavioural patterns. In a new WP, we show the high ratio is due to data errors 🧵with @manuelbagues 1/n
RDI’s @Kasparov63 was at the Munich Security Conference. He heard two visions of America’s role in the world—one from @marcorubio, another from @AOC.
Garry didn’t like either—so he offers an alternative vision for American leadership in the world. https://t.co/pxv1xQ2pu6

Trump trying to make amends. Tho no apology. Pity he didn’t find it necessary to say any of this in his original disparaging remarks. He was attacking America’s allies in Afghanistan. We were by far its biggest ally. This has been dragged out of him because of the sh*tstorm he’s stirred up. Will he now do the same for Canada? France? Denmark? Poland?
@Cal_Lewis_7@afneil @Manoama89 The issue is not that Europe cannot fend on its own, it is that the western alliance has always worked as a team. And now Europe has to fill the gaps that US used to provide, which will take time.
1/ Denmark was preparing to fight the United States over Greenland, according to Scandinavian news reports. Around 1,000 Danish troops and a frigate with anti-ship and anti-aircraft capabilities are being sent to Greenland, with standing orders to fight invading forces. ⬇️
Factful Friday is up!
JFYI: EU has second highest supply-chain leverage against EU (after China).
👉 In July, when the EU was pondering retaliation against the Trumpian 2 April tariffs, I presented charts comparing EU & China’s supply-chain leverage over the US. (charts in the post, also on Substack).
👉I concluded: “Europe has the leverage to force an escalation and subsequent US tariff climbdown, but can doesn’t mean should.”
👉I argued for restraint to protect the line between trade & security policy.
⭐ But Trump crossed the Rubicon; arguments for restraint are weakened.
NB: China took years to prepare their weaponisation of supply chains. Et Tu, Europe?
