@allielevitt2 I think that our privacy is becoming increasingly more important for people. In the age of social media we are seeing what it means to have privacy violations and starting to understand the consequences. #UWJ201 #317
@GracenSpritka I think that is it a bad thing because social media, in the US, increases perceived polarization and allows for more mis and disinformation to be spread quickly. TV networks have forms of fact checking and journalistic integrity but social media doesn’t ensure this. #UWJ201 #317
Learned about Facebook and it’s influence on our democracies in #UWJ201. I’m wondering if as citizens we can take action to make sure that we don’t allow Facebook to disrupt our democratic rights. Or are there any actions that the government can take to limit Facebook power? #317
@JonathanDraege3 I definitely think that social media should remove bots, especially because these post make people very upset and exacerbate the widening political gap. These are very dangerous and could cause more hate therefore I think that they should also move removed. #UWJ201 #317
@allieserterides The companies have established themselves a forms where discussion can flow freely. Even though deplatforming isn’t a violation of the 1st amendment, it’s crucial that we balance the power these platforms have and creating a safe environment. #UWJ201 #317
Today in #UWJ201 we talked about Snyder V Phelps, this is an interesting case of hate speech. I’m wondering what people’s thought were on the Supreme Courts decision in favor of free speech, from a journalistic perspective do you think this was fair. #317
@AudreyP248@Sclark978 Hi Audrey! I agree with what you are saying but as we learned even when journalist are unbiased and using research readers with strong opinions still feel attacked and lose trust. I’m wondering how we can create a society that is overall more objective. #UWJ201 #317
Earlier this week we talked about the societal functions of journalism one being that it creates better self governing citizens. Do you feel informed enough about public issues to make well rounded decisions in voting? #UWJ201 #317
@noa_chamberlin I had the same question! I think more than accuracy a lot of articles leave out specific parts of the story to fit their agenda. I’m wondering how this could be avoided in order to have a more informed public. #UWJ201 #317
@katerouman There is definitely tension between the two parties which has been exacerbated by the media. Like we read in the article about unifying our nation we have to keep an open mind while having these conversations and separate our political identity from who we are. #UWJ201 #317
@divya_d626 This is such an interesting observation. It’s easy to judge people for being bias but more difficult to self reflect and catch ourselves for subconscious thoughts. I think we all have to keep ourselves in check and staying informed is the first step. #UWJ201 #317
Today #UWJ201 taught me that we as consumers of the media are biased in how we perceive a stories. So how can we learn in a more equitable way and seek to educate ourselves regardless of our preconceived notions? #317
@qlansill Hi Quinn! I had the same question and I think that unfortunately having a media that isn’t driven solely for profit would require us to actively push against media and fight for less consumer driven outlets. #UWJ201 #317
@Austin_Keller10 Hi Austin! This is a great question and I think that we consume media different even if let’s say all types of people are watching the same thing because perceptions are so different. I think this is especially true from generation to generation. #UWJ201 #317
@elena_mccosh Hi Elena! I think that this is such an interesting point!! I for sure think that music influence how we think or rather what we think about, perhaps even more powerful because we are so passively consuming it. #UWJ201 #317
Learned all about the different world views that heavy TV watchers believe, mostly negative views. I wonder if there are any positive or constructive ideas that TV has or will create. #UWJ201 #317
@KenWang925 I think remaining objective is extremely difficult because of human nature. But as we saw in “What makes Wisconsin swing” a way to remain more objective is to consume a variety of media instead of inclusively what aligns with our beliefs. #UWJ201 #317
Today’s lecture has me wondering, if partisan news has always been prevalent in our media why does it feel like we are a more divided nation now? #UWJ201 #317
