Do not forget: Palestinians have been under bombardment for 11 months. 40,000 of them have been killed by bombs like these. Whatever you hear from Western media today about this horrible development in Tel Aviv, ask yourself, why did you not hear it about Palestinians?
The Israeli military killing of Shireen Abu Akleh is devastating and infuriating. I condemn this unacceptable attack on her, on Palestinians and the freedom and safety of journalists everywhere.
There must be accountability, and we must demand an end to Israeli apartheid.
At this point, people working at corporate media outlets should be ashamed of themselves for ever referring to this stark asymmetry of power as “clashes.” This is assault.
"Shireen's producer told Al Jazeera they identified themselves to the Israelis as press & that the Israelis shot at them without asking them to leave or stop filming."
My commentary tonight on the killing of Al Jazeera journalist @ShireenNasri in Jenin:
خاطرت الصحفية شيرين أبو عاقلة بحياتها مراراً لنقل قصص الشعب الفلسطيني ومعاناته. قتلها هو اغتيال لمبادئ الحقيقة والعدالة، لكن لا يمكن للرصاص أن يقتل القضية وإيمان الناس بها.. رحمك الله وألهم عائلتك الصبر والسلوان #شيرين_ابو_عاقلة
Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Aqla repeatedly put her life on the line to bring her people’s stories to light. Her killing is a crushing blow to truth and justice, but no bullet can kill a cause or crush a people’s spirit. May she rest in peace
