89% of India’s cities under the National Clean Air Programme #NCAP still fail to meet India’s own PM10 air quality standard. The Government’s own data is damning; 116 of 130 NCAP cities remain above the permissible limit of 60 µg/m³.

After 7 years of NCAP and ₹ 16,423 crore spent, reducing pollution is being celebrated while clean air remains out of reach.

A reduction from a dangerously high baseline is not “clean air”. It is not success when 9 out of 10 cities still fail the national standard.

The government’s claim that AI data centres do not per se require environmental clearance is deeply concerning, especially as their enormous energy and water footprints grow.
Thank you @sagarikaghose for raising our critical concern in Parliament. We need mandatory environmental and water impact assessments, transparency and accountability, not exemptions for AI.

India's cities are generating far more sewage than they can treat, leaving a treatment gap of over 20,700 MLD. At the same time, the Supreme Court has rightly called for structured guidelines to impose environmental compensation under the Solid Waste Management Rules.

Environmental laws are only as effective as their implementation. Polluters must face predictable, transparent penalties, and urban local bodies must be held accountable for failing to build and operate essential waste and sewage infrastructure.

Accountability cannot remain optional. Our children deserve cleaner cities, rivers and a healthier future.

So called “green crackers” are back under scrutiny. CPCB has told the Supreme Court that the new formulations still use barium nitrate, a chemical already banned by the Court & that the pollution reduction claims are incomplete and inconclusive.

There is no such thing as a “safe” cracker when children are forced to breathe the smoke.
