@EddieComeaux@UCLALawReview@DrUJayakumar Many students put certain schools at the top of their list known as their "dream school" but this information is not widespread sometimes. Athletics is a spotlight on this as many teams at these schools have a trend of what their team usually looks like affecting recruiting.
@jsulbn@TA_ED50 Equal rights in education is still such a big issue! There's so many factors that go into admissions but this could be eliminated with effort. Individual accomplishments and merits should be the priority. @TA_ED50
@annette_are@TA_ED50 I agree that it's important for students to use the resources they have available for them. Being a student athlete can be difficult but being confused will take it to a whole other level. Picking a career path can be challenging. @TA_ED50
Will universities ever reach a point where other races are not highly favored over others? There was a decrease in more than half of minority athletic admission rates than white people. @TA_ED50#UCR50
Social media allows athletes to make connections and further their impact off the field. Athletes can make impacts for social issues, community issues and so much more by having this outlet. @TA_ED50#UCR50
@_alexander222@KatryaLy I agree it can be disheartening to women athletes and all college athletics when title XI is there but not as apparent. Women have to go out of their way to be treated even the slightest bit like male athletes. @TA_ED50
@stephanieW010@KatryaLy I agree! The inclusivity for women in the NCAA has grown and there have been major steps taken to represent them. At the same time there has been many cases against the NCAA that prompt them to do this in the first place. @TA_ED50
@amieucr@abhornUCRedu Your post brought attention to a small detail that is embedded into sports! I hadn't thought about this but now when I think of watching highlight reels etc majority represent men in all positions and sometimes the ones for women are much shorter. @TA_ED50
Title IX works towards gender equality, over the years it hasn't been easy.Women have been held from scholarships & experiences out of "fear"but in reality this would help grow athletics even more. There are both good and bad sides to every intent including backlash.@TA_ED50#ucr50
@stacesong_@KatryaLy I agree! Having diversity in all aspects makes a huge difference in how athletes respond. I believe athletes could advocate more for themselves if they saw themselves represented in authoritative positions. @TA_ED50#ucr50
Coaches/faculty make it a point to athletes to focus on what's going good rather than going against them, for example when the text says to "look beyond racial/ethnic differences".They want to athletes to focus making better connections which can be insensitive. #ucr50@TA_ED50
@Danielaaa_g7@KatryaLy I believe high expectations can do a lot to an athlete mentally and physically. Being an athlete comes with a lot of stress unfortunately. @TA_ED50#ucr50
@RemiMendoza027 @abhornUCRedu I agree! There are different dynamics with collegiate athletes and faculty that are based on them being athletes. Often time faculty think of them as a different type just because of what they are involved in. @TA_ED50
@RCorona032@TA_ED50 Often times winning pulls coaches and athletes away from morals and rules. This also depends on the culture a program is creating for student athletes. The image you attached provides good stats! @TA_ED50#UCR50
It's easy for student athletes to feel small on a big stage. Student athletes get different treatment from faculty because of different factors that exclude education. I found the short bio of someone who felt lonely interesting because many athletes can resonate. #UCR50@TA_ED50
@Cassy_04garcia@KatryaLy I can see the argument but athletes do need a certain gpa to participate in games so I do think they're getting their stuff done. I could see how their schedules leave little time for academics, balance is needed. @TA_ED50
@CIbarra29 Smart to mention sports connecting to a community because it's apparent how connected people feel when going to games in their hometown or alma mater. There's plenty of situations to build character and open doors for education that might not go through without sports. @TA_ED50
@littlebunnyw@KatryaLy I think it's so important to keep athletes reminded of their educational values, I feel like when their balancing so much it can be easy to slack off in classes and focus on practice/games. Athletes work under pressure but at what point is it unhealthy? @TA_ED50
It's interesting to see how in Chapter 6 it was validated that athletes have little to no social life and are almost separated from their daily life. Is there a way universities can ensure a healthy balance for student athletes if they can't do it themselves? @TA_ED50#EDUC50
