As physical therapist we make changes to a runners form NOT because it’s better, but because it better helps the runner tolerate forces, in their current state.
It’s all about keeping them running when able, but the changes that are made aren’t always intended to be long term.
Is that sometimes the presentation can look more convoluted (think femur and sacrum).
If you’re having discomfort associated with running it’s best to seek out advice from your healthcare professional!
Bone Stress Injuries are something we see often in the running world.
A couple things we look out for are pinpoint tenderness that is sharp/stabbing and increases with load or activity. Early on symptoms may improve with rest, but eventually even rest is painful.
The challenge
Running fitness comes down to inputs.
The beautiful thing is that it’s not about how many inputs (miles/intensity/workouts) you give each day, but how many days you can give an input.
When asking a runner what they need to do in order to stay healthy they often say, “Do more of the little things”.
We know the answers. It’s not always a knowledge problem, but rather a commitment problem.
The next question is what do you need in order to stay committed?
You earn the privilege of moving more by moving better.
Focus on how well you’re moving before increasing the volume or intensity of activity.
Rather than focusing on how many miles you run or how much weight you lift, focus on improving your skill of movement.
@Route2FI I had to quit video games altogether. Modern video games have become way too addictive.
Might pick up a switch at the end of the year to play the latest Zeldas though
