Lakhs spent in coaching & tuition fees every year to send young students to suicide?
The celebration at enrollment in IITs, all leading to young deaths?
How many deaths will it take till we know that too many students have died?
#IITDelhi
yesterday, a bunch of us met up to discuss and formalise how we can show our opposition to the elevated corridors being planned in Bengaluru
the same that will cut through Indiranagar and turn it into Ejipura
here's what we finalised -

Civic issues are weirdly placed.
They affect everyday quality of life way too much, but it is extremely difficult for anyone with a functional life - a full time job, a spouse, aspirations in life - to do anything meaningful because of how much time it takes to chase local govt officials who give zero flying fucks about you.
Which is why young people, or anyone who has a meaningful stake in the future of the urban environment, completely sit out of urban governance.
It is completely dominated by either -
1) retired uncles who think everyone should only walk in clockwise direction (if you're been to a bangalore park you know)
2) corrupt politicians, as funnelling is easier
the consequence is that you have shitty projects being built around the city (cause politicians love them) on the one hand, and shitty rules around existing public spaces in another.
that is how you end up with things like the double decker flyover, lakes in bengaluru being shut in the afternoons and late evenings, and Ed Sheeran being asked to GTFO when he performing for free in the city.
there's just one answer to these problems.
We need to take back power.
From the uncles, and from the politicians.
Now let's get to the issue at hand.
Politicians and bureaucrats have decided that they dislike the fact that Indiranagar is a generally live place, has trees and footpaths, and they would much rather prefer it decrepit like ORR.
So they're going to build a flyover right through it (see pic). Cutting in through 80 Feet Road and 100 Feet Road, it's going to kill trees, footpaths, maybe a park that's on the way, breweries, restaurants, and whatever little peace of mind that there is for people in the city.
The issue isn't just this one flyover. B-SMILE, the random bureaucratic body that has decided to build this, has planned at least 9 more flyovers across 150 km.
This is when EVERYONE BY THIS TIME KNOWS that flyovers don't help with traffic. Public transport does. Cycling and walking infrastructures do.
In the age of information, a few ChatGPT messages will tell you why and how. There is no excuse to make the same mistakes again and again and again.
And if the uncles and politicians want to make the same mistake again, we need to grab back our power and not let them.
We're deciding to protest against this flyover, all the other flyovers, and the B-SMILE itself (or at least its head B.S. Prahlad, who wakes up every morning thinking about how he can make Bangalore traffic worse).
Not at Freedom Park, which is literally a ground and out of the way and easy to ignore. Right in the middle of Indiranagar, at KFC junction.
Things are still being planned, no time/date is concrete yet.

@SivaStyle@dmuthuk Some of NFHS metrics for Guj specifically are quite shocking. Child stunting, female literacy till 10 years, women married before 18 etc. are objectively very poor in GJ.
@SivaStyle@dmuthuk Gujarat does not spend on healthcare and schools. Many of their highway and road projects get disproportionate coverage from central resources .

They had the same problem with PIX but Lula stood his ground for Brazil.

@kalai_nt@UpdatesChennai Grid should not conch when load shoots up. Same problem in Maharashtra, consumers are getting levied heavy grid charges and massive curtailment.
