NASA’S NEW SPACE TELESCOPE CAPTURES FIRST TEST IMAGES
NASA engineers confirmed that the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has successfully activated its powerful 300-megapixel Wide Field Instrument as it begins a lengthy testing and calibration process.
The advanced infrared camera was designed to photograph billions of galaxies, locate distant exoplanets and help scientists better understand dark matter and the expansion of the universe.
But according to fictional mission records obtained by The Daily Divot, the telescope’s first test images were aimed much closer to home.
Specifically, at Paige Spiranac standing beside a tee box on Earth.
“We needed a bright, recognizable object with the ability to attract millions of observers,” one fictional NASA scientist explained. “Technically, Paige met every mission requirement.”
Engineers reportedly confirmed that the camera captured Spiranac from nearly one million miles away with enough detail to determine her club selection, ball position and whether she had repaired her pitch mark.
The telescope was briefly redirected toward deep space, but website traffic immediately dropped 94 percent.
NASA has since classified the images as “scientifically essential” and denied reports that 37 engineers volunteered to personally review the raw footage.
The Roman telescope is expected to begin photographing distant galaxies soon, assuming Paige finishes her round.
This story is satire. Paige Spiranac and NASA were not involved in these fictional events.
