The thing about consistent layoffs at a local newspaper is that they resonate in the room for weeks. It drives journalists out, and people might think twice about pursuing a career in journalism.

That is bad for democracy. Journalists deserve secure futures.

There are exactly two Governor’s schools that meet or exceed the state’s public Ed population percentage of Black students at 22%.

And at Maggie Walker, Richmond’s flagship Governor’s school, they accepted white students at a rate 4x more than Black students for two decades.
