This acceptance speech by Shri Anant Nag 🔥
Such humility, such a command over sanskrit and depth is a rarety in the cinema world today
It feels proud that we know their family closely right from childhood
Firstly as a fellow Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin, his full surname is Nagarkatti. For the film world he is known as Nag.
We are hardly 22k in the whole world. Yet we have produced artistes who have defined cinema. Anant mam (as I have known him) along with other greats like Gurudutt, Shyam Benegal has now reached the summit of cinematic achievement. In fact if I am not mistaken Anant Mam's first lead role in a hindi movie was in a movie "Kalyug" directed by none other than Shyam Benegal.
Incidentally, he still visits Anandashram where I have taken deeksha when I was 12
His mother was an inmate there and both Anant mam and his equally illustrious brother the late Shankar mam used to visit regularly
The last time I met him there (a few years ago) he mixed with everyone and also offered to play tabla during evening bhajans. He himself can sing bhajans very effortlessly
His sister used to live in our society and his nephew and niece played together in our growing years. We are still in touch
His introduction to drama was in Mumbai. The Kanara Saraswat Association stage which has been the training ground for many well known actors.
We have a socio cultural event every Diwali where our community members would typically present full length 3 act plays
Anant mam first made his mark here in konkani and marathi drama.
What touched me in this speech was he mentioned that he has mentioned his life at a math as well as the ashram and also about Mumbai where he got introduced to stage
I have not seen him on stage as it was before I was born but have heard stories from our society people
I have not met him in years now and my contact is only through his nephew and niece.
But I still remember moments where he always connected as a normal human and never as such a huge star of the kannada film industry
And yes it really feels unreal that someone I have known since childhood has been conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award which is supposed to be the most prestigious award for the cinema industry
Congratulations Anant mam
So proud 🙏🏽

Met Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji of Sri Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha, Udupi, along with other dignitaries.
Unveiled the logo of the Birth Centenary Celebrations of Padma Vibhushan Yatikula Chakravarti Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji. His life of devotion, learning and service continues to inspire countless people. The various initiatives being undertaken in the run-up to his birth centenary will further carry forward his noble ideals.
Met with the Hon’ble MPs from Keralam.
We discussed the operational issues in Mangaluru. The Mangaluru railway area was divided into three different zones, which was creating serious operational problems. The decision to keep Mangaluru in SWR will solve the operational problems.
We also discussed the development of the railway network in Keralam. Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji has increased the allocation for Keralam 10 times to ₹3,795 crores in FY26-27. This amount was just ₹372 crores in 2014. I also discussed the matter with Hon’ble CM @vdsatheesan Ji. A detailed note on railway development projects is attached with this post.
Swara Bhasker reveals she was so upset with the Ram Janmabhoomi verdict that she messaged every Muslim celebrity in her contacts, including Aamir Khan, SRK and Salman Khan.
"As a Hindu I wanted them to know I was sorry and ashamed and didn't support the Ayodhya Ram Mandir verdict."
This UPI MDR might be a totally useless idea but it has a huge lesson for Govt. Just see how difficult it's for Govt to charge fees on UPI via MDR after it has been free for years.
Now imagine the day Govt can't afford to give freebies. The way it's increasing before every election, at some point it will become unsustainable and Govt has to stop freebies, that will create unrest and make people hit the streets, because if given without any conditions, people start thinking Freebies as their right.
If Govt really keeps the nation above everything, they should make a law to stop new elections freebies right away otherwise it's just a matters of time, it'll explode.
Hope some people are still there with active brain cells and courage to take right decisions in Govt.
Taxes is the easiest subject for BJP to thrash CONg black and blue - yet BJP is allowing CONg to run away with the narrative ... shame !!!
BJP has hard data to show how both indirect and direct tax burden on the common man has been substantially reduced after GST 2.0 and IT Exemption Slab Raising
The new IT cell should realise that there is more to SM than posting killer memes. One needs to be aggressive with hard data and lead the narrative rather than firefight the false narrative of CONg
If MDR is imposed on UPI transactions and merchants have to bear that cost, some merchants may eventually try to pass that cost on to consumers by increasing their prices.
The govt says that MDR on UPI transactions is a merchant-side charge and that consumers will not be charged directly.
But how will the govt ensure that merchants do not pass the MDR on UPI transactions on to consumers?
On merchants passing on 0.4% UPI MDR transaction charge to consumers-
"Doing so would violate law & will be criminal offence. This will never be imposed on customer or common man. You can't impose this on our consumer"
But @JM_Scindia Ji, how many consumers are going to waste time in lodging a Police Complaint or in going to Consumer Court & wait for 10 yrs to get verdict? Sir, no-one has this much time & will simply prefer to go away from UPI.
In my opinion, UPI must remain free especially when Bharat is expanding it to multiple Nations. About cost of system incurred by NPCI to maintain system— Govt can give it subsidy but keep it free for Consumers as well as Merchants. Alternate sources of revenue can be revisited & thought upon.

Congratulations to the legendary Anant Nag Ji on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
For several decades, his effortless performances, remarkable versatility and brilliance have left a very strong mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema. In whichever role he has played, he brought rare depth and authenticity.
This is indeed a richly deserved honour for a truly distinguished artist.

The public spoke, and the government listened. This is how democracy should function.
I thank every citizen who turned up at Lalbagh, under the leadership of 91-year-old Yellappa Reddy Sir, to oppose the 5% park diversion law.
I also commend the Chief Minister for respecting public opinion and deciding to withdraw this draconian law.
But the fight is not over.
Until the disastrous Tunnel Road project is officially dropped, neither Lalbagh nor the ancient Peninsular Gneiss Rock is safe.
Today, I argued before the Hon’ble High Court opposing the Tunnel Road project. The Court has directed the Geological Survey of India to place its report before it and fixed the next hearing for September 10.
The government has also amended the Karnataka Tank Conservation Act, reducing the lake buffer zone from 30 metres to just 3 metres to facilitate the Short Tunnel project at Hebbal Lake. This amendment too must be withdrawn.
Our fight to protect Bengaluru’s lakes, parks and green spaces, and for the sustainable development of our city, will continue.
Thank you, Bengaluru, for standing up for your city.

Bengaluru showed up and how!
One message to CM - "Bro, it's done. Drop the tunnel road. Hands off Lalbagh"
This will continue until the State Govt withdraws the draconian 5% Park diversion law and drops the stupid tunnel road project.

Why are all my BJP friends in a tizzy because of my remark? Yes, our economy is doing well but India's overall debt is not a happy occurrence. Foolish of anyone to defend this! It's embarrassing for a scientist to explain commonsensical economics but here goes (pardon rough and approx figures as writing on the go):
1. India’s public debt is not some ₹270 lakh crore irrelevant figure; the Centre alone owes about ₹201 lakh crore. Add the states and general-government debt is over 80% of GDP, far above the old FRBM ceilings of 40% (Centre) and 60% (Centre plus states) that were supposed to be hit by FY25. Interest already takes 40% of the Centre’s revenue; the FY27 bill is budgeted above ₹14 lakh crore. That is not a footnote. It is the first charge on every tax rupee.
2. The Centre has at least tried to put a share of borrowing into capex. The states have not, uniformly. A growing slice of state borrowing is paying for salaries, power subsidies and unconditional cash transfers; twelve states alone set aside about ₹2 lakh crore for women-centric cash schemes in FY26, not for assets that service the debt. Several high-debt states are, in effect, borrowing to give money away.
3. India is not America. It has no reserve currency, a still-narrow income-tax base, and cannot roll deficits the way the dollar can. Most of the debt is domestic and rupee-denominated, so this is not a classic external-debt crisis. It is a compound-interest and politics problem. Fast nominal growth can shrink the ratio for a while; it cannot indefinitely outrun a 40% interest-to-revenue claim plus election giveaways.
4. If growth slows, the interest bill, state deficits and crowding-out of private credit will produce something problematic: higher real rates, less room for capex, and a fiscal vise that closes just when the next shock arrives.
5. So let us be sensible. Praise the govt for its good policies and be critical of the things that are not right and need to be set right.
6. And @pradip103 and @MumbaichaDon, my brothers, I don't do monkey balancing. And I don't make reels as I am not on Instagram, never have been. So please don't get personal - arguments are never won through getting personal.
7. But I never mind personal barbs from my RW and BJP friends because they are friends and their heart is in the right place. But I do get embarrassed by the eagerness of some of them to make a fool of themselves publicly at times! Cheers and have a great weekend.

Dear Pawan Khera, I'll report to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma ji about your indiscipline conduct if you talk about half-naked swimming. Do you swim with full suit & coat?
You are a 1st term MP, nominated by your party in Rajya Sabha & I've fought 8 elections so far. That doesn't give you the right to make indecent comment. I swim with my villagers to inspire my people & followers. Rahul ji doesn't exist in my mind when I'm with my people. But Congressis started commenting that I can't swim like Rahul Ji. So, I responded since I don't take training for activities. I'm a natural khiladi in our mighty rivers. Don't be abusive needlessly all the time.

The integration of the Mangaluru railway network, previously under Kerala’s Palakkad Division, into the Mysuru Division of South Western Railway is a truly historic decision.
This fulfils the long-standing 23-year demand of the people of Karnataka, particularly the people of Mangaluru and coastal Karnataka.
Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji and Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji for their support and commitment in making this landmark decision a reality.
