I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many spotter dots in the PNW… it’s like some more unusual weather by our standards is expected today!
Good luck to all those chasing it today!

STATUS update: The issue some spotters experienced yesterday after submitting a report and getting a “503” error has been resolved. All reports did successfully submit but the error caused confusion. Issue with password resets is still unfortunately ongoing as we work w/Google.
Here is a break down of timing for select areas of the country for the severe storms today and tonight. Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are possible across several areas. Please see the individual graphics below for more specific timing information.

A note from @SkipTalbot :
“A graduate degree in meteorology and advanced spotter training from the NWS are wholly inadequate for making one a safe and effective storm chaser. It’s left up to the chaser to self-educate and gain field experience through risky trial and error. This process is greatly assisted by those who have come before sharing what they’ve learned.
The pioneers and veterans of chasing in the decades before I took to the road paved the way for my own endeavor into storm chasing. Now it’s our turn to pass the baton.
Jennifer and I are teaming up with @GirlsWhoChase to lead AMS sponsored virtual training sessions through the COMET MetEd program.
Geared toward beginner and aspiring chasers, we’ll be covering topics in storm structure identification and how to safely position around these storms to successfully document them. There’s a whole array of additional topics from experienced and talented people as well.
We’re live on Saturday morning, March 2.

We heard there’s a big mid-summer ballgame tonight and thought it was a great time to talk a little lightning safety from behind the plate, featuring NWS Director Ken Graham.
PLAY BALL! ⚾ ...unless, you know...there's lightning nearby.
