@livwasnock Exactly! I found Hobbes’ ideology to be really interesting and relevant when I was taking S&P and read Leviathan…but after taking ethics and exploring egoism, I found myself not agreeing with his ideology as much. It’s fascinating! #i2e21
What I find most interesting about Philosophers is how the subject can make you change if you agree or disagree with their views. I’ve taken S&P, Environmental, and now Ethics and how I’ve viewed certain philosophers ideology has changed with different context #i2e21
Reason and restlessness has led me to wanting to be a perpetual student, always willing and able to learn. I don’t agree with Plato on everything (ahem looking at you, eugenics) but I do agree with his belief that education should be a lifelong process. #i2e21
I also agree with Socrates’ notion that there is nothing more dangerous than claiming to know something we don’t know. This has been evident in our own society, especially during the pandemic.
#i2e21
The idea of Socratic knowledge really resonates with me. I think it took self realization of my ignorance before I finally was ready to learn, and thus decide what I want to be when I grow up…now that I’m in my thirties #i2e21
@KelzPag In my younger years, I don’t think I would have. But as I have gotten older and started to appreciate the value of being open and willing to learn, I would…maybe with a bit of reluctance, but yes. #I2E21
@maxbeneshh@BHethics4 Because sometimes it’s the people that we have a personal connection to that hurt us the most and it’s comforting to know that not all people are like that. I help others because it puts a little good out there when there can be so much bad. #I2E21
@crustygobber (2/2) they are growing up with the idea that altruism isn’t something to be rewarded or grow to learn, it’s just a part of who we are and what we do. They love to help and especially volunteer, but that’s because I started them young with volunteering. Modeled behavior? #i2e21
I asked my 11 year old son what Heinz should do and he said “if the creator doesn’t care about life but sells a drug that could save a life, then Heinz should steal the drug and then anonymously give the money to the company when he is able.”So he’s pretty on par with Jake #I2E21
@crustygobber This is tough because I don’t feel like either are really the answer. I feel like parental influence plays a big part in this when they are younger and since I’ve always taught them kindness to ourselves and everyone else, altruism is instinctive for my kids. (1/2)
@Nleone2488 I feel the same! I have the mentality that because I used it, it’s my responsibility to return it. Even when I have my kids and my hands are full and it’s snowing/raining, I still feel it’s my responsibility. #I2E21
@Nicholas_Smith6 Very true! Now I’m reflecting on my life and lifetime of “unlucky outcomes” at almost midnight. I’m revoking that high five to Kant! #I2E21
High five to Kant for making me feel better about my lifetime of terrible luck! I appreciate that I can still be considered a good person! It makes up for how complex his ideology is! #I2E21
@crustygobber@JCethicsaccount@Gracedom3102 Yes!I started teaching my kids autonomy as toddlers, yet watch grown adults not understand the concept or feel as though they are entitled to others’.The violation of women’s autonomy is rooted in our country’s history and we still dishearteningly fight various forms today #I2E21
The fact that Governor Stitt waited to deliver this news, which he had more than adequate time to decide on, until the last meal was given is egregious and caused mental harm for all parties involved. Just because something is legal doesn’t make it ethical. #i2e21
After prayerful consideration and reviewing materials presented by all sides of this case, I have determined to commute Julius Jones’ sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

@crustygobber I agree with you on this. And it also makes you think about who in society actually deserves to be valued since they have the power to be influential because of that value… #i2e21
Yet this man’s fate is still left up to the governor. Our prison system is abhorrent in and of itself, but our legal system is equally asinine. Capital Punishment needs to be abolished. This isn’t freedom, nor action a country deemed as “developed” should implement.
BREAKING: The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole board voted 3-1 to recommend clemency and to commute Julius’s sentence to life with the possibility of parole. #JusticeforJulius
How can someone be on death row when there’s so many questions surrounding the case?Whether or not they committed the crime; isn’t the fact that we are questioning their involvement reason enough to not have them on death row?Speaking on the ethics of the Julius Jones case #I2E21
