Breaking: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay has ordered the closure of 717 TASMAC liquor outlets functioning within 500 metres of places of worship, educational institutions and bus stands across Tamil Nadu within two weeks.

According to the government, the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation currently operates 4,765 retail liquor shops in the state. Following directions from the chief minister, officials conducted an inspection to identify outlets located near temples, schools, colleges and bus termini.

The survey found 276 shops near places of worship, 186 near educational institutions and 255 near bus stands, taking the total to 717 outlets.

Major power disruption in Chennai: A fire accident at Manali substation in North Chennai has disrupted power to most parts of the city.

Tangedco MD Rajesh Lakhani said they are working on a bypass line to restore power within 30 mins.

Power has been cut from Manali to Mint, and also parts of Velachery, Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur residents have complained as well.
