WTL Chief Servant Shri Annamalai is completely wrong in his accusation against the Centre on Mekadatu Dam issue. He has presented a false picture about the Centre’s position when the Centre’s position is consistent and very clear from 2019 till today.

PMK leader Shri Anbumani Ramadoss’s question was whether the Centre is aware that the Feb 2018 Supreme Court order says that Karnataka should get permission from states like Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala for building Mekadatu damn. The Centre Government’s written reply to that question was that the Feb 2018 Supreme Court’s order does not contain anything like that. The Central Government did not say that, “Karnataka need not get permission from TN, Puducherry and Kerala” as Annamalai has twisted and accused the Centre now.

Two, on the same day Congress MP Smt Sudha has asked about the Centre’s position on Mekadatu Dam. The Centre in its reply now has clearly reiterated its 2019 and 2021 position stating that the DPR prepared by Karnataka Government in 2019 was not approved and returned because it does not have Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA)’s approval of which Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala are members. So in effect, the permission of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala are required by Karnataka to build Mekadatu. This is the Centre’s stand even today.
